Yesterday was supposedly our ice day. The visibility was low and the look was like snow clouds but very low. Since I did t hear the snow plows I assume the trucks weren’t needed, so no ice in our area! The temperature in the house dropped though.

I tend to forget to put wine clthes on in the house, guess I may need to do that as staying under the covers doesn’t help things get done and I need to get a space for my new tv which means removing the old one.

We only got a splash n dash from that storm, although the northern counties got much more. But it's dreary and grey looking today.

When I was first put on blood thinners, I was so cold all the time I used to stay dressed in sweatsuits, even using them as pjs! Kinda nice to wake up dressed Smile-Big :D Have several sets of 100% cotton ones that I still wear to bed on really cold nights.

Amen to the waking up dressed. My heavy robe is in the wash which I was going to do yesterday!

No blood thinners, but I don’t regulate temps well anymore, no “fur”!

Please let me know if you can access Where to Invade Next.

If so, I'll start a thread titled Impeach Trump, or order the NRA to execute Michael Moore for treason?

Looks like I can, at least temporarily.

quote:
In 2001, nearly two decades into Pereira’s accidental specialisation in addiction, Portugal became the first country to decriminalise the possession and consumption of all illicit substances. Rather than being arrested, those caught with a personal supply might be given a warning, a small fine, or told to appear before a local commission – a doctor, a lawyer and a social worker – about treatment, harm reduction, and the support services that were available to them.

The opioid crisis soon stabilised, and the ensuing years saw dramatic drops in problematic drug use, HIV and hepatitis infection rates, overdose deaths, drug-related crime and incarceration rates. HIV infection plummeted from an all-time high in 2000 of 104.2 new cases per million to 4.2 cases per million in 2015. The data behind these changes has been studied and cited as evidence by harm-reduction movements around the globe. It’s misleading, however, to credit these positive results entirely to a change in law.

As for your new thread I’m not sure I see in logic link.

This other one is right up my alley.

We had six youngsters kill themselves with overdoses (or contaminated drugs) at concerts this year.

A former detective told me this generation is interested only in staying awake 24/7, but I still reckon if we legalise drug use we will far reduce drug deaths and, possibly, addiction.

How anyone can ignore what is happening in Portugal, or indeed the Netherlands, is beyond me. Unless, of course, my suspicion all too many of our political and legal leaders are in hock to the drug barons is correct.

Have to go, as I could be in trouble with the traffic police. When I turned 75 a while ago I received notification I had to get clearances from my GP and optometrist that I was still OK to drive.

Been waiting for the next notification, only to be told this must be done annually, and I am well out of date.

Have passed all tests but need my GP to sign off.

See y'all.

Good luck, our drivers licenses expire in less time, after a certain age. No sure exactly what it is but I’m thinking 75.

As for legalizing drugs, there have been some movements that suggest that. It doesn’t solve the problem youngsters self medicating. So I’m not sure why they still wouldn’t be buying contaminated drugs! It could however lower prices and thus make the market less lucrative.

As for Red Bull and the like, it was no doz in my day, but only during exams. As much caffeine as I used to drink in sodas I can’t imagine no doz doing much!

I must say that I’ve worked on sleep deprived projects and noticed the difference. There was an attempt to do that during Y2K conversion. It was an older group and I simply told my manager that it was counter productive for me to work 70 hour weeks. The net result being I would be sick for a week. I assured him that the last 2-3 weeks I could and would work those hours because I wouldn’t then be sick on project time. He was mad and really forgot what I had said. Sure enough the last several weeks I worked the long days and was more efficient than those that were exhausted. My intuitive analysis was still sharp enough to solve problems quickly. We made the deadline and my boss acted surprised I’d helped so much. I just told him I had told him I would and others said they appreciated that someone wasn’t punch drunk over loss of sleep. Sleep deprivation only works for a while, us older folk know eventually our body takes over.

Found it on Amazon for a small fee. May be a few days before I can give it the attention it deserves.

Did read the piece on Portugal. There are some here who are attempting to move us in that direction, but it seems to be slow going at this point.

The prevailing attitude amongst the powers that be seems to be bust 'em, lock 'em up - and if they OD before we arrest 'em, that's just one more dregs of the earth we don't have to incarcerate. Pretty sickening and fully ineffective...

Seems mild compared to the US. From Wiki:
quote:
From 1999 to Feb 2019 over 770,000 Americans have died from drug overdoses.
In the United States, 70,200 people died from drug overdoses in 2017, which was an increase of about 10 percent over 2016.
Since 2000, the U.S. drug overdose death rate has gone from 6.2 per 100,000 people in 2000 to 14.7 per 100,000 in 2014.

And yeah, they want to stay awake...right up until they suffer from adrenal burnout. Then they either OD on uppers that no longer work or they take a downer and go for the long sleep.

The Philadelphia folk festival mildly screened for large quantities of alcohol and drugs, years ago they carried out 2-3 on Qualudes every year. Usually the last concert of a 3 day event.

So far as I can tell, there is no final age limit. It all depends on the GP and optometrist. My licence expires on 07/08/2021, when I will have to pass another test. I'll be well on my way to 80.

Judging by the Portuguese report it does work. On the other hand: https://www.reuters.com/articl...uption-idUSKCN1VI1OJ

In the old days, No-Doz and Berocca got me through any day. They have little effect now.

What I was talking about, though, was today's generation on ecstasy and ice:
Users think the drug will make them feel good and keep them going for days without rest. https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/drugs-ecstasy.html

Reminds me of a UK report that said returning business control to the local workers, those directly involved, was far more effective financially.

My Dad is still driving at 95. His instincts are that of a naval aviator! When a snow heap grabbed a tire and sent him down a sloped median he didn’t try to jerk back, but rather guided the angle so as not to turn the car over. No one was hurt, nor was the car but he did require a tow truck to get back to the road!

My next license will have the requirement for glasses removed! That is if I can figure out how to get then to give me another eye exam or accept my permanent implant cards!

Stay safe.

The closest fire danger is some 14 miles away.

We do have a fire ban, of course. Most of the safe places registered here are well within safe driving distance for me, though:
https://www.ruralfire.qld.gov....nd-City-Council.aspx

Plenty of beer in the fridge, and the nearby shopping centre is only five minutes walk away, so you can rest assured I am indeed safe.

What really bugs me is that, despite what is happening around Sydney and elsewhere, there are still people insisting warnings about our pollution-caused global warming are emotional and irrational.

Now with the NZ volcano, the air isn’t going to get better either.
