Nah, you have but the flimsy toy version. The real ones...you can't touch those! Mine. MINE. ALL MINE!

Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

I had another look at the leaves. Those pointy bits are there, so that must be the right plant.

The top bloom is bigger than my stretched hand, and another four are already showing yellow. Looks like lots of seeds on their way.

I am.

Just been eaten alive by bull ants as I tried to dig out some weeds.

Never learn, do I.

I’m told food grade is best

Supposedly their “skin” doesn’t handle it well.

Found this that says they aren’t really ants!

That reminds me.

SBS is rerunning the Monty Python films, and one of its promos made me think of posters in London protest marches against Boris Johnson. The posters had photos of Boris, with this slogan:

If you saw Life of Brian you'll remember the scene when scores of people line up outside his house demanding Brian bless them. His Mum tells them to clear off, yelling "He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_kKAeh6qyc

As a prelude to the movies, SBS is running a documentary with the surviving Monty Python crew. They reinforced the conviction that Steam Radio's The Goon Show completely changed UK comedy.

Spike Milligan was the principal creator, also working on-stage with Peter Sellers, Harry Secombe and Michael Bentine. Between them they played an incredible number of characters.
The BBC's Wallace Greenslade is remembered for being the announcer and straight man. Very often his closing line was "It's all in the mind, you know" which is where I got that one, long before the Beatles..

Don't remember this:

Thirty-nine local authorities either imposed an outright ban, or imposed an X certificate to the Biblical satire after it was condemned as blasphemous when it was released in 1980.

Well, if you can't learn that, at least learn this:
tobacco for stings

more sting remedies

I find that either tobacco or baking soda work fastest for bee/ant stings...

Isn’t that chewing tobacco? Maybe I should read it! Baking soda takes a bit, it needs to dry but I’ve used it on campers before!

Just remembered the meat tenderizer trick too, mostly bees and wasp. Stingers are removed with a credit card so yo don’t squeeze more venom in.

When I went to college (1979-1983), they used to show movies on campus and Life of Bryan (edit oops wrong Brian), was one of the two I saw. The other one was a naughty for a Catholic one too, Heavy Metal, which had the Stevie Nicks song Blue Lamp in it even though Nicks is not heavy metal. With Blue Lamp, Blue Oyster Cult, and Black Sabbath, it was a colorful soundtrack. Hmmm the Black Sabbath song was "The Mob Rules"! For the more religious, there was a Nazareth song; they are from Scotland! with a song Crazy (A Suitable Case for Treatment)... hmmm.

Q: (L) In this recent book I read about Paul, it basically exhibits what Paul was seeing or perceiving in his visions, or his conversations, or his channelings with Jesus I guess you'd call it.

The book is this one but it's way too pricey.

https://www.amazon.com/Pauls-N...-ebook/dp/B01NAFWHAC

Here's a quote from it:

quote:
Once, according to Paul, the perception of the invisible things of God is lost all that can be perceived is that which is created. The fall, according to Paul, is a change in perception, a loss of the perception of the divine connected with the assertion of futile human thought and a darkening of the heart. The consequence of this is that humankind can only see clearly the physical and comes to be identified with the physical stuff of human existence. This is ‘the lie[…]

Not exactly my cup of tea. Or maybe it's just my mood today.

Don't think I've ever seen any of this stuff... We only get the British stuff on PBS and I haven't watched in quite some time.

The Goon Show was originally produced and broadcast by the BBC Home Service from 1951-1960.

Bit before your time, m'dear.

Sorry, you've lost me.

Gong Show?

A talent show which began decades after the entirely different UK show.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gong_Show
The Gong Show is known for its absurdist humor and style, with the actual competition secondary to the often outlandish acts presented; a small cash prize has typically been awarded to each show's winner.

That reminds me of 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, a UK comedy panel show. In format, it is identical to a straight program here where contestants have to create words from random sets of letters, solve conundrums, and select random numbers which a calculator uses to generate a total and the panellists much find a way to get that number.

The comedy program uses it all to make jokes, some close to obscene.

Interesting. I suspected it might have been the reverse but then I lived overseas when the goon show first started, or so it seems. And quite a bit after then we got our first tv!

Nevertheless I remember hearing the name and thinking it was a mistake. Even if I heard it after I had seen the gong show. My grandmother liked it, I thought it was ****** as the talent seemed to be consistently bad but what does a youngster really know!

Fair's fair, Reed.

Now it's your turn.

From 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, four conundrums;

assboner.

Clue: powerful position.

slag pile.

Clue: Could get messy.

damn bras.

Clue: Tricky to get off.

rentagimp.

(Gimp is outdated and offensive slang insult implying that someone is incompetent, ******, etc.)
