I try to keep up on things, but I was baffled by an e-mail recently. A stranger asked me what I thought of something he called an iPad.

I haven't heard of it, and try as I might I can't find out anything about it. No one seems to know anything at all about it. It seems to be tremendously obscure.

Can someone help me out on this odd thing? Does it have anything to do with the menstrual cycle?

Thanks!

Jeff/CompGuy, in some underground bunker far from civilization...

Jeff,
I'm not absolutely certain, but I believe iPads are a product from Dr Scholl designed to protect painful blisters on the feet.

Amazing......

My boys were here yesterday (very hi-tech, degrees in technology, etc).....I asked them about the ipad and they said rather nonchalantly...."Well Mom, you might like it."

Oh they are these awesome new giant credit cards that have screens. To get one you pay a one-time service charge of about $500 depending upon the style of the card(I-pad), then there are some connection charges. I hear the screen is totally worth it though. I can't wait to see the new ATM machines.

Another must have gadget?
Was a Best Buy today and they had a table where people were playing with it.
Some pretty pictures, but I have no idea what it is supposed to accomplish.
Don't really care either. LOL!

LOL! Not yet. But there's always Mother's Day. (Actually, I don't want one) They got out all their stuff and were on my lappie and desktop and testing out the signals...texting each other I had no idea what they were doing.

Besides, now that I have a granddaughter I got a water purifying system from one son and pictures of the g'daughter from the other.....But I'm happy.

Oh they did get annoyed with me for signing a new cell phone contract just to get the free phone. I felt really stupid.

Frown :(

I got myself a prepaid phone (a Tracfone) several years back, pretty much as an experiment to see if a cell phone would be useful to me, and if I could use it to replace my home land line altogether. It's just a very basic phone (no camera, no downloadable ring tones, etc.). I paid something like $20 for it at Walmart with a double minutes for life deal, and every 90 days I add a 60-minutes card for $20 (doubled to 120 minutes), making it effectively about $7 per month for 40 minutes per month which, for me, I never run out of and keep accumulating. The experiment has been pretty successful, I think, even if I still haven't gone through with getting rid of the home phone, and even though it's not a spiffy smartphone like many of my friends are sporting nowadays. (To economize the home phone, I'm thinking now of replacing it with an Internet phone provider instead, like Viatalk or Vonage, any of which offer better plans than AT&T et al.)

Stephen,
I just bought a reconditioned LG600 phone direct from Tracfone for $20. It does everything cell phones can do, but I will limit my use of it to talking. I get the doubled airtime also, at the same price you are paying. There is no long-distance charge for countries on this continent or for many European countries either. All this without a contract. I searched other companies before choosing Tracfone and found no better terms or prices.

PCWorld has a pretty good article comparing iPad with netbook. Their conclusion -- you're better off with a netbook.

The iPad is pretty cool. But will it blend?

The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews. Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of people and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it, Poland and Czechoslovakia did it. Turkey threw out a million Greeks and Algeria a million Frenchman. Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese and no one says a word about refugees. But in the case of Israel, the displaced Arabs have become eternal refugees. Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single one. -Eric Hoffer
