It has also begun to rain there, adding to the misery of the population.

The local news here is carrying stories of homeowners killing intruders with guns. Security issues are on the rise, along with unemployment and workman's comp treasuries running out by statue as well as with shortages in many State budgets.

As Obama is noting, it is hard to negotiate without a financial basis.

Today there was an earthquake rivaling a similar one in a similar place 50 years ago: a 9.0M quake in Chile.

In searching for the origin, the Lamb of God, I came across this association of perdition and the Song of the Lamb:

The plums and grapes from Chile were very good this year. I pray those sources were minimally if nny damaged.

Tungaruhua volcano in Ecuador continues its high eruptions.

Cuba had a small swarm of small earthquakes near the shore facing Haiti.

Iceland recently had an inferno of volcanism with lava but no ash. Three VAAC posts are monitoring it.

The lunar perigee is Sunday, 3/28. Global earthquakes at the 5M level continues elevated, so we may see more from the volcanoes.

They were a no-show, as the man of the house had a priority phone call from the Middle East. We went by his house on our way home, just as he was leaving, so I gave him a palm branch "from Jerusalem" I had brought home for him. He took it and seemed thankful. We agreed to try again on getting him to church. The wife was no where to be found.

Quake update

While Chile continues to have aftershocks up 6M magnitude, there has been 7M quakes south of Mexicali, Mexico and west of Sumatra. The Mexico quake appears related to a geomagnetic storm possibly with CME, while the Sumatra quake is more related to Chile, through a 6M quake in Indonesia's Molucca Sea.

The Moon reaches its Far Point on April 9, which hopefully will dampen the bigger aftershocks from the above quakes.

Update:

The volcano in Iceland is still erupting ash to 23,000 feet. There was snow today in Albuquerque, New Mexico, enough to coat roofs and the top of cars white.

There are two 6M earthquakes in the middle of the Bering Sea, no tsunamis predicted.

I certainly hope there isn't, but the damage was done above water, then compounded by the platform overturning and sinking, bending and breaking those pipes.

The problem is really unprecedented, and the measures being taken for containment are even more radical than putting out the Kuwaiti fires. I'm hoping the containers work.

     It would be helpful to know what the explosive substance was, but I can find no answer on the Web. The rig was carrying 700,000 gallons of diesel fuel, but that's not explosive unless it's very hot. I surmise a big gas bubble from the well was the culprit, but that is nothing but a guess.
