Sela used "road" in her topic.

This morning I took Gospel songs to senior homes. One visiting daughter ahead of me called it a "blast from the past". I think it is very current, particularly other verses to Jesus Loves Me.
http://www.dltk-bible.com/jesus_loves_me.htm

I also asked one resident lady whether she would prefer a horse or a carriage.
She said, "A horse."

Here is the Scripture:
quote:
Revelation 19:13-15 (Amplified Bible)
13(Jesus) is dressed in a robe dyed by dipping in blood, and the title by which He is called is The Word of God. 14And the troops of heaven, clothed in fine linen, dazzling and clean, followed Him on white horses. 15From His mouth goes forth a sharp sword with which He can smite (afflict, strike) the nations; and He will shepherd and control them with a staff (scepter, rod) of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fierceness of the wrath and indignation of God the All-Ruler (the Almighty, the Omnipotent).

What I am doing is looking at how anyone travels on the "road" to Heaven.

Donald

I suspect the way to travel that road is to be united to the One leading the way--a union which is not in name only, but in becoming, as it were, one flesh with Him as His bride. I think it was St Athanasius of Alexandria (ca. 300 A.D.) who said that God became man so that men might become god. That is to say, to become the same kind of men that He as the God-man did; or to have His life and His will as ours; or to be completely conformed to His image; or to die to the world and have our life hidden with Christ in God, so that when Christ our life appears, we will also appear with Him in glory. (And none of that has anything to do with earthquakes or astronomical alignments or synchronicity or prophecy or any such thing--except perhaps in how we respond to those events in loving our brothers in need as we are transformed into Him.)

That appears to me to be rather esoteric, and very suppressive of individuality.
I happen to believe in the "Born Again" idea, even as a United Methodist in company with the Assemblies of God and the Roman Catholic Church. The Holy Spirit is a living presence in my life, but I'm still me.

Sela has often stated her version of Bride of Christ, which resonates with your presentation, yet I don't always get a clear idea of how she handles the relationship of other Christians who have the privilege of communion with Christ in Heaven.

Even the vision of John in Revelation has many on white horses, suggesting individuality of some degree. MY thought on angels, as part of a concept of individuality, is that they are on wings, not horses. If fact, my unpublished little book, Son of Coyote: When Jesus Was A Cowboy, fleshes out the usefulness of that distinction.

The resident I mentioned in the first note was a black lady who was loquacious, but still an advanced Altzheirmer's patient who kept asking the name of my dog.
She was adamant about riding a horse instead of being in a carriage (OT description of some returning to Jerusalem).

BTW, my understanding of a biblical hell is the damned swimming in the Lake of Fire, a soup of lost souls, something akin to what you described for Heaven.
Yet Revelation describes the Tree of Life, the River, the streets of gold, the pearly gates. Then there are the many life after life experiences, which may of course be programmed by their faith experiences in life.

Maybe I'm missing something?

The New International Dictionary of the Bible mentions 150 citations for horse in the Bible. There were some beneficial uses, but the horse was especially suited for warfare by its intelligence and maneuverability. King Solomon overcame Scriptural bias to acquire many horses, and at great expense.

On the other hand the male horse, the stallion, was considered evil, in analogy to well fed and strong men who prowled on their neighbors' wives. Thus Christ on a white stallion in Revelation conveys victory over such tendencies, and presumably he holds sway over many such stallions, as well as mares.

What is of concern, of course, is that warfare is anticipated, as well as earthquakes. Of note is the 6.1M quake today in Iran under an island in the narrow straits of the southern exit from the Persian Gulf. The toll is just coming in, but some were killed and many houses flattened.

The developments in Israel of increased availability of transportaation at its new airfield in the Negev, coupled with continuing threats against Israel by Iranian leaders and the propaganda war with Israel, including the threat to kidnap the Iranian president, is compatible with Scriptural prophecy, including that of mobility of the modern armies.

The white horse of Christ also suggests that the heavens will still supply superiority over the enemy.

The image of horses from the Bible that leaps to mind for me is that of their being used militarily by Israel's enemies, and of God's saving Israel in spite of the strength of those around them. For example, Psalm 20:7, "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." Or Isaiah 31:1, "Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but who do not look to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD!" And of course there's Israel's escape from Egypt through the sea, where the waters returned and drowned pharaoh's pursuing horsemen and charioteers.

The role of animals and birds in the Bible is that they are domesticated and brought under the control of man, as in Genesis 1:28. The next question is how domesticated animals are used in society. Many animals can be white, and I notice here in Albuquerque that white is applied to many vehicles. In New Mexico one major advantage is that they are cooler.

Color is sought in animals as being desireable, so I am not surprised in the vision of John of Revelation that he sees white robes as well as white horses. I am also not surprised in Christ's conversion of Earth and believers that he has sought the great white stallion, as Peace comes to Earth. The problem is man living up to the color, not the color changing man.

Here is a documented situation where Jesus on a white horse is needed:
from www.IsraelNationalNews.com today.

quote:
It is estimated that, for the past seven years, more than one thousand
Christians have been emigrating from the Bethlehem area annually and that only
10,000 to 13,000 Christians remain in the city. International human rights
lawyer Justus Reid Weiner, who teaches at Hebrew University, told the Jerusalem
Institute for Global Jewish Affairs that, under the PA-Fatah regime, Christian
Arabs have been victims of frequent human rights abuses by Muslims.
"There are many examples of intimidation, beatings, land theft, firebombing of
churches and other Christian institutions, denial of employment, economic
boycotts, torture, kidnapping, forced marriage, sexual harassment, and
extortion," he said. PA officials are directly responsible for many of the
attacks, and some Muslims who have converted to Christianity have been murdered...

There are specific examples in this long article. Another article in this edition is about the Jews of New York City preparing to greet the President of Iran when he comes to address the UN in two weeks.

You lost me at that point.

Why worship or follow a god who covers himself in blood? That's not a kind, loving god worthy of worship. That's not the Jesus who urges turning the other cheek. That's a vindictive, punishing, vicious god demanding obedience OR ELSE.

Much of the Bible is filled with such hatefulness and bloodlust. I find it reprehensible and disgusting.

Go ahead smite me. I dare you.

LOL

The symbolism, of course, is that he shed his blood to save us. The vindictive types were the Roman and certain Jews jealous of his popularity back two centuries ago who healed the sick and lame, etc.

My thought is that his armies only have to be present, and that those in heaven have the ability of Jesus to pass through walls to scare the bejabbers out of the enemy and chase them to the rightful place for non-believers.

"What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Jesus Loves Me" are still the concepts I cherish. AND as an Arminian, I believe you have the chance to enjoy this favor also, and not all that other stuff.

I agree that that is an important part of it. There are other examples though of robes colored red with "blood". One is the "blood" of grapes, which Jacob prophesied for the line of his son Judah. See Genesis 49:10,11 and the surrounding context. Another is, as far as I can tell at a first reading, the blood of the enemies of Israel as God has vengeance on them; here again the symbolism is grape "blood" from a winepress. See Isaiah 63:1-6. The note on vv.2-3 in the Orthodox Study Bible says, "Christ is clothed in the flesh of His humanity and stained with the blood of His Passion. Having been crushed by His enemies in His death, He in turn has crushed them under His feet." (I would add here that His enemies are the same as all of ours: sin and death. The traditional icon of the Resurrection depicts Christ trampling upon the gates of Hades while lifting up Adam and Eve from their graves. And speaking of icons, often Jesus is depicted in a red tunic-like garment with a blue himation wrapped around it, symbolizing his divinity wrapped in his humanity; Mary is depicted the other way around, in blue covered by red.) This passage, from 62:10 to 63:9, is read at the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord.

You come up with some interesting passages.

I think, however, the basis of the still very popular hymn, "In The Garden", has some clues of interpretation for the eschatological book of Revelation.

quote:
John 20:14-16 (New King James Version)

14 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”
She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!”
She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).

In an army of charging white horses meeting the raising of the dead and the living, it helps to have some means of recognition, and John supplies us visual helps. On the other hand, there is the element of name recognition, if not by Christ, then how about one's guardian angel saying your name, especially if you are riding your badge of inclusion, the white horse?

I would say that a risen believer encountering Jesus on his stallion in the sky would not able to read a sign in Hebrew or tell whether a red stain was blood or wine. The events of the encounter would be massive enough that intuition would be the deciding factor of recognition, and the joy of inclusion would cement the course the horse took as positive.

Here is a fascinating vision:

quote:
Zechariah 6
Vision of the Four Chariots
1 Then I turned and raised my eyes and looked, and behold, four chariots were coming from between two mountains, and the mountains were mountains of bronze. 2 With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses, 3 with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot dappled horses—strong steeds. 4 Then I answered and said to the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?”
5 And the angel answered and said to me, “These are four spirits of heaven, who go out from their station before the Lord of all the earth. 6 The one with the black horses is going to the north country, the white are going after them, and the dappled are going toward the south country.” 7 Then the strong steeds went out, eager to go, that they might walk to and fro throughout the earth. And He said, “Go, walk to and fro throughout the earth.” So they walked to and fro throughout the earth. 8 And He called to me, and spoke to me, saying, “See, those who go toward the north country have given rest to My Spirit in the north country.”

It is fascinating because of the first Christian Kingdom in Armenia, which was overcome, and because two chariots, one with black and the other with white horses, went north, the one with dappled horses went south, and nothing is said about the one with the red horses. Other translations say the chariot with the white horses went west.

My Bible search was with "white horses", finding the above and the Revelation verse.

As it so happens, I just read this chapter a little earlier this evening.(*) In the Septuagint, vv.6-7 read as: "'The black ones went out to the land of the north, and the white horses went out after them, and the piebald horses went to the land of the south. The dapple gray horses went out and looked to go around over all the earth.' And He said, 'Go and travel over all the earth.' And they traveled over all the earth." So it doesn't say there either where v.2's red ones went. And it introduces the "dapple gray" ones which are not listed at all in vv.2-3, which use "piebald" for your "dappled" but with a similar meaning: patches of typically black and white.

* I've been slowly working through the prophets as they're ordered in the Septuagint. Not that the order matters so much; just that my new Bible is a translation from the LXX, so I was reading through to see how it may be different from the Masoretic. Anyhow, I've gotten through Hosea, Amos, Micah, Joel, Obadiah, Jonah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, and half of Zechariah so far. Still to go are Malachi, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Baruch, Lamentations of Jeremiah, Epistle of Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel (which I've actually already read, and which is what spurred me to go back and read the rest of them).

BTW, Armenia is to the north-east of Israel. The middle of Turkey (which was highly Christianized in the early centuries) is due north. Armenians used to live in a much wider area though. Shortly before Jesus' birth, an Armenian kingdom reached all the way through Syria and Lebanon to the Mediterranean. Some time later after the Islamic conquests, the Armenians were allocated a territory along the southern edge of Turkey. Still today the Armenians share control of various Christian holy sites in Jerusalem with the Orthodox and the Catholics.

Also, btw, there are four horses (five actually) in the first chapter of Zechariah. They are red, dapple gray, piebald, and white, and they also go out into all the earth.

I wonder how the black horse got found? Smile-Big :D

Solomon wasn't the first king interested in acquiring horses,
Legendary King David's victories included the acquisition of large numbers of chariots, charioteers, and horses. (2 Sam 8:4, 10:18) That, of course, is an example for John in Revelation.

From The Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible (1962) I find some interesting statements:
The OT has no word for the abstract concept "color".
For the type of garment worn by Joseph and Tamar, the correct translation is doubtless "long with sleeves" (RSV) rather than "many-colored".

quote:
..there is no evidence that colors were so employed in the decoration of such buildings as the tabernacle or the temple, or in the manufacture of priestly garments. In later ages, however, the colors were given an allegorical meaning: the fine white linen was said to represent the earth from which the flax had sprung...

Maybe it is the risen of Earth wearing white, vs say the risen of Mars wearing red??? And accompanying animals of similar color...

Another thought on "white horses":

Yom Kippur is the annual Jewish occasion for praying for forgiveness of sins, and making white. http://www.jewishbyte.com/yomkippur.php It starts the evening of 8 October.

There is a Ukrainian ship loaded with Russian tanks and ammunition that has been hijacked by Somalian pirates, who are asking a ransom, while they take the small arms and ammo. If no ransom, they threat to blow it up. A U.S. destroyer is nearby, and a Russian warship is on the way.
http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20080927/AF.Somalia.Piracy/
Those tanks might get a bath.

In preparation for Yom Kippur, this note from www.IsraelNationalNews.com on the rains in Israel:

quote:
RAIN WASHES AWAY WORRIES, OFFERS GOOD SIGN FOR NEW YEAR
by Hana Levi Julian

The first rains of the season fell on the Sabbath, washing away worries of Iran
and corruption and giving a bit of much needed rain and good news as the old
year comes to an end.

Four straight seasons of less-than-average rain have left Israel's water
resources seriously depleted, and it will take 40 days and 40 nights of steady
rain to bring them back to levels that will relieve the current shortage.
Farmers already have been forced to turn off the irrigation pipes in thousands
of acres, leaving orchard trees to dry out and fields to remain fallow.

Up to half an inch fell in areas around Jerusalem, and heavy rains were reported for a short time in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. Even the northern Negev saw about an hour's worth.

The rain was a double blessing because it fell on the Sabbath, when farmers do
not lose a day of work due to muddy fields because they are not able to work
according to Jewish law. Secondly, the rains generally were light and drizzly,
allowing the earth, parched from the long summer to absorb the moisture. Heavy
rains at the beginning of the season usually fail to penetrate deep into the
ground and simply run off into streams...

Enough to wash the horses white? Smile-Big :D

Big quake today north of New Zealand:
7.0M 2008/09/29 15:19:31 -29.872 -177.684 35.0 KERMADEC ISLANDS, NEW ZEALAND

The energy seems to be going east or west, but the planet has been quiet, so I am not expecting 6M's. One reason is that the Moon is half-way to its Far Point.

Stay tuned. White horses may still be needed.

I wouldn't put any stock by that stuff, seeing as how the Dispensationalist "rapture" was virtually unknown as a doctrine among Christians until Darby popularized it in 19th century America.

Sela and I have been having that conversation for years.

The Rapture does have more drama and excitement than a lake of happy souls and/or fiery lake of damned souls.

There is support for the Rapture in both the story of Paul's conversion and his letter to Thessalonians:
quote:
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 (New International Version)
16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18Therefore encourage each other with these words.

The word "dispensationalism" is not even mentioned.

Donald,

The truth of that Scripture passage was unveiled in my many writings. Certainly the Rapture scene that has been depicted to us over the years with the "Left Behind" series and all the other hogwash on the market by Christian Fundamentalists, is far more dramatic and exciting than TRUTH! Why do you suppose millions of books were sold ~~ to make money, of course; and TRUTH (such as revealed in my books) is suppressed because it would make FOOLS out of fools!

Stephen is 100% correct when he says not to put any stock in that stuff, I thought by now you would know that! Wink ;)

However, if Christians are looking for a literal event which would fulfill Paul's words, all they have to do is read my first book where the Lord actually DID come down from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, with the trumpet of God, and with the dead in Christ rising first!

Even I did not understand the significance of much of my writings until years after the Spirit commanded me to "write a book"; but if you will recall that 'night of revelation' (pg. 55-56, "Clothed With The Sun", ©1979), the Lord not only appeared to me with a shout and loud command, but the dead in Christ DID rise first! Remember how frightened I was? The Bridegroom came as a "thief in the night", and I was so alarmed that I cried to my husband, "Our children! All our children are dead!" Suddenly my sister Yvonne was shown rising before me and my thoughts rested on my sister Yvonne.

quote:
"Yvonne!" I gasped. "Yvonne is dead!"

And behold, there came unto me a reverberation of voices, like the rumble of thunder, and the first voice which I heard, a gentle voice, said, "No, Lois." And the second voice which I head was a thunderous voice behind me, saying, "Yvonne has much favor in God's sight!" And the third voice which I heard was a flighty voice in the distance, saying, "She is saved!"

What does this mean? What does this mean? My heart cried! (Quoted from pg. 56, "Clothed With The Sun", ©1979, by Lois Hoover.

Now...many years later, I understand all of this, and have explained this in volumes of writings throughout the years, that only those with "much favor in God's sight are saved!" The rest are condemned right along with GREAT BABYLON!

As I have said many times, these are things that are recorded as a LEGACY for future generations. Christ was not accepted in the first generation and also, as has been said, the LAST generation parallels the first. Iow, events that would change status quo are NOT ACCEPTED during the time of the actual event; but after GREAT BABYLON IS DESTROYED, the living will scratch their heads and say, "Yikes, what happened?" Flame :flame:

But it will be too late because ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD!

Paul also heard the voice of Jesus on the road to Damascus.

Yesterday I was dreaming when I saw an old woman in our backyard wearing a bright red bandana. I lept out of bed, and was amazed at how many things I do that have bright red somewhere in the doing. I have mentioned the vision I saw when I thought my daughter was lost.

These things are important, but the interpretation as you also experience is not immediately clear.

I'm choosing to leave the Rapture open, as it is as Paul says meant to comfort.
Heaven knows how many good Christians have already died, with the promise they will see Jesus. Viewing our Balloon Fiesta here as a model of the Rapture, I can vouch that very few Balloons leave the ground at the same time, but the guides are able to get hundreds in the air at once. So why not, going or coming, should it be in God's will to have us riding white horses? They are sturdier than clouds. Smile-Big :D

Donald,

How well I know! It was a close correspondence to my own experience and gave me comfort during my time of trial. Paul's own words describe it thus:

quote:
Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me. And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"

So I answered, "Who are You, Lord?" And He said to me, "I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting."

Now those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they did not hear the voice of Him who spoke to me. So I said, "What shall I do, Lord?" And the Lord said to me, "Arise and go into Damascus, and there you will be told all the things which are appointed for you to do." Acts 22:6-10.

Interestingly enough, those who were with Paul could not hear the voice of Him who spoke, but they did not beat him up or tell him he was crazy. Likewise, the people involved in my experience could not hear the voice of Him who spoke, but when I told them about it, they used their power to beat me up, tell me I was crazy, and lock me up!

See the difference in how men treat women? "You dumb woman," the response was. "Why would God call a stupid thing like you?" But, of course, it really isn’t much different today with ‘natural man’ even after all the great strides of the Women’s Movement. We see it all the time.

The era that I wrote about was a very horrible difficult time in my life, but I now understand why God commanded me to 'document' the story by 'writing a book' in the same way He commanded the Apostle Paul to document his story.

But the truth of the matter is the level of reality never reaches those who cannot go beyond their five senses. They operate only on one level, the kind of level in which they themselves can actually see and hear. But for those who operate beyond that level, John in his Revelation gives a blessing!

quote:
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. Rev. 1:3.

History has shown that it would take two thousand years before the gospel of the kingdom would be preached "in all the world as a witness to all the nations" (Matt. 24.21) and then the end would come.

As the Lord told me that night, now over four decades ago, this is the time of the judgment, and He revealed many secrets about it which I have been putting in writing all this time (even though the church chose not to accept it).

quote:
For He cometh, for He cometh to judge the earth! He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth!" (Quoted from pg. 60, "Clothed With The Sun". ©1979. *Quoted from Psalm 96.

But, of course, most Christians have other wishes, such as the Rapture that you mentioned. And I am sure most posters on this forum know my position since I first started posting. The point to be made is that the Lord in heaven works within His own laws that He created to accomplish His will. However, as the Bible states, the obstacles become almost insurmountable when 'the devil comes down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.' (Rev. 12:12.)

There is no end to what the devil can do but we are promised that this awful monster will be bound and cast into the bottomless pit that he should deceive the nations no more! (Rev. 20:1-3.) That is a big job ~~ which I interpreted in my commentary, "The Final Unveiling", but chronologically this cannot happen until GREAT BABYLON IS DESTROYED!

So here we are, still waiting; and just the other day the headlines in the paper read that we are seeing 'the end of the world as we know it' in the financial market. Can't find the article now but came across other interesting articles.

The End of the World As we Know It?

End of capitalism as we know it

Civilization as we know it is coming to an end soon

God gives man the principles of how life should be lived here on this earth but his basic nature is predisposed toward mischief, manipulation, exploitation, and power over others. The character traits as taught in the Bible, such as responsibility, discipline, perseverance, courage, commitment, confidence, integrity, cooperation, harmony, and purpose rarely exist in these age-end times; but, of course, these character traits take a lot of effort! Frown :( Granted, the younger generation has much to learn about personal growth and perseverance, in the same way I had much to learn after the 'born-again' experience as described in my book.

But the Bible teaches that life will still go on after the Grand Finale!

So, here we are, still waiting for the final end of the world as we know it, which is prophesied in Revelation 16:18-19 as a great earthquake ~~ and which we have been debating for 14 years!

So, God, let's get with the program!

Sela

P.S. Snakes have been in my computer. I'll tell you about it later.

Here's how the week of quakes looks so far:

The Virgin Islands have a swarm of 3M aftershocks, over 40 at this point.
The Kp 4's are in red as they are the threshold for geomagnetic storms, which were noted on www.spaceweather.com .

If something big collapses in the Puerto Rico Trench, which is the deepest in the Atlantic, then a tsunami could conceivably head up the East Coast, even to Manhattan Island and Cape Cod. This map shows the faults and historical earthquakes in the area: http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/recent/prp0828819_h.html

Even though there are so many 3M aftershocks, this level is still not of great concern, but is still of interest. Remember several hurricanes have passed over the area recently, and they can cause small quakes that can be recorded on seismographs, and one 5M was.

Anybody taking the presidential tax tinkerings seriously?

The earthquake "triangle of safety" is next to the bed, not under it, sheltering from the roof and allowing conscious survival.
