WINTER HAVEN -- Thousands flooded the gates of the nation's newest theme park as Legoland Florida General Manager Adrian Jones flipped a big LEGO brick switch to officially open the park on Saturday.
Lucas Brunner and his family traveled to the park in Winter Haven from Lake Mary. The family was the first into the park after showing up at the entrance at 6:30 a.m.
In Miniworld, master builders used tens of millions of LEGO bricks to build mini versions of cities, like New York City.
Jake Thompson and his buddy, Jude Haines, had the run of the park that was built for children like them.
Judging by the reactions of the boys and other guests, the theme park's first day was a successful one.
The opening of Legoland Florida signals an economic boost for retailers, restaurants and other business in the Winter Haven area and surrounding communities.
