Book Review: If you're interested in opportunities to be a volunteer in travel settings around the world, "700 Places To Valunteer Before You Die" is a terrific resource tool. The hefty 536-page paperback ($22.95, Dog's Eye View Media)by Nola Lee Kelsey has detailed listings of over 750 volunteer projects. The tightly-written information, provided on a geographic basis, covers the organizer and contact information, cost if any, duration of volunteer period, kind of work involved, age particulars, whether any particular skill is necessary or recommended, etc. The useful book also has advice from people in the volunteer field, tips on how to select projects, and an abundant arsenal of related sources. The range of actitivies one can select from is both lengthy and fascinating. Teach, study turtles, preserve historical and architectural heritage places, develop health facilities. work on experimental organic farms, help resarch on dolphins,
etc. There's also a handy index of colunteer listings by project type. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jack Adler, Host |
