Book Review: "Where Discovery Sparks Imagination" is a fascinating pictorial book about the early history of electricity and radio. The handsome, oversized hard-cover coffee table book is filled with excellent information written in a lively style and enhanced by superb pictures of instruments that are certain to stimulate interest. The 224-page book describes such unusual units as a winter friction machine. leyden jars, volta canisters, scintillating tubes, Edison bipolar dynamo, and a host of other intriguing inventions and devices. The author, John Jenkins, is the head of The American Museum of Radio and Electricity, based in Bellingham, WA, which also published the book (priced at $34.95). The path of discovery in this vital field is traced with consummate skill, and the book will be of interest to all readers, not just those attuned to electricity and radio subjects. In addition, children of all ages are likely to find the book a valuable of source of information for their own interests as well as useful for any academic projects.
