He lost his command. Resignation was the mechanism. Nice talking to you too, Zoot. Now let's see if the adjectival phrase Chango once invented to describe me passes the TOS test it failed here recently. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The documentation and preservation of cultural artifacts is the single most important activity of a society.

Still nit-picking, I see. I agree...I suppose my point was how do you give it everything you've got when it is they who have the "staying power?".....As in guerilla warfare? Peachy

zoot, maybe you can answer this for us. Isn't there a difference between resigning one's command and resigning from the military? I don't know if we know the details of what transpired between McChrystal and Obama, but I don't know if it was a foregone conclusion when McChrystal walked out of the Oval Office that day that he was required to, or had agreed to, resign from the military. In fact, seeing as he is apparently retiring with his full retirement pay (after having lost one star because of losing his command position, or for having had it for less than two years, or whatever that was), seems like ... well, I don't know what it seems like. I suppose all of this could have been part of the agreement; then again, I'm not sure we know. What is your understanding of all this? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “What a shame that time passes, don’t you think? effectively .. i don't think there was a choice in the matter .. it was a matter of either resigning the command or being relieved for cause .. either one is a career ender for a flag officer .. i'm sure that .. in respect for his years of service he was allowed to resign .. rather than being brought up on charges of conduct unbecoming and violation of art 188 UCMJ [thou shalt not utter vile things about the civilian overlords of the military .. not state executive officers either] he'll be retired as a two star .. with full benefits .. it could have been far worse .. and .. he'll become a darling ofthe political right ala-ollie nawth .. if he chooses to do so .. but .. as we haven't seen that blossoming .. he might just lay low .. and laying low might have been part of the deal to keep those two stars and exit gracefully [well perhaps not-so-gracefully .. but you get my implication.. ] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~Jkat~~~~ "the time has come" the walrus said "to speak of many things ..of ships and shoes and sealing wax .. of cabbages and kings..."
