The first page of the News topic is littered with the trash of a poster who seems to be in a contest with himself, and that is to see how many dumbh'sit topics he can post on a daily basis.

On one of his topics, he even quoted himself because he apparently was lonely.

The poor thing must be exhausted because he was at it for HOURS today and yesterday.

He's here talking to himself every single time I log on.

Doesn't sound like an insult to m. It sounds more like a medical problem that need treatment.

If somebody tells you you've got a mental/medical problem that needs treatment when it's a lie... you don't consider it an insult?

Or, is it not an insult as long as it's slung at somebody you don't like?

translucent skinned reptiles shouldn't post on the internet .. every response one gets can be be perceived as an "insult' if one is so inclined ..

I feel for ya....so many "insults"....so little time. You certainly find them in the oddest places. You and others may not have liked it but Zoot had every right to say what he did and I think he did so as gently as possible within the TOS that have been outlined to all of us.

Number 1. It wasn't a personal insult in the first place. Furthermore it can't be a personal insult if Zoot never mentioned a name. If someone wants to claim ownership...well that's up to them.

Number 2. There was a valid opinion/complaint about the BEHAVIOR of a fellow poster and what that BEHAVIOR says about any fellow poster.

We are allowed to call someone's topics "dumbh'sit." If we are not, then I don't want to post here either.

When a single poster spends hour after hour, day after day adding little to discussions but posting "dumbh'sit" topics in an obvious effort to bury others, it calling the BEHAVIOR lonely is being generous. I for one, think it perfectly appropriate that the culprit be called on it and that person should expect that his/her BEHAVIOR be ridiculed and should take responsibility for his/her actions.

It is neither a personal insult nor an infringement of free speech....on the contrary.

Hikikomori has far more meaning than "lonely". The word was selected for the depth of the meaning as well as the supposed camouflage for insult. Otherwise, why not say lonely?

When a person who feels persecuted but lacks the personal skills to actually confront his/her adversaries or match wits with them, they often resort to passive/aggressive behavior of which, burying posts is a textbook example.

Talking to oneself online is another behavior I would say fits the model described by Zoot, Harpy, Koka and myself.

Zoot's particular anger is with the volume of posts. Seems an odd thing to get upset over. I know, all the other gems get buried undert the posts, but it's such a simple thing to keep a post alive. Just make controversial notes... not about fellow posters, but about the issues. Sometimes people find new perspectives on an issue in a free wheeling melee over an issue.

Sometimes members get frustrated and lash out with insult darts.

I didn't detect anger. Zoot said he felt he was wasting his time. I can identify with that.

For me, it's frustrating to spend time working on a post and instead of getting a sincere or well-thought out response, even a contradictory one, and then having the post trivialized by someone who appears so emotionally incontinent that they must pee on every post.

It's a waste of time for me. I find myself not wanting to spend the time it takes researching good material.

It seems to me in the genre of political discussion boards, they fall basically into two sub-genres.

Type A is where the community consists two polar opposite sides of somewhat equal size that debate/argue/yell at each other over the issues and real research is required in order to remain viable.

Type B is where the community is essentially one side, where real debate rarely occurs but lots of mutual back slapping goes on.

Though type B may have token opposition, that opposition exists really and a target board for abuse rather than a sounding board for introspection. It's rather more peaceful because a huge majority of one type dominates any (if there is any) opposition.

Since Aantares is a board described here as a type A more than a type B, there has to be a certain amount of tolerance for the vagaries percieved by one side from the other. There will naturally be frictions among the fractions, so to speak, and when one is angry (or frustrated over wasting time) one must deal with that in as gentle a manner as possible, or in as rough a manner as permitted by the TOS.

Zoot won't be gone long... he's the type who finds neither satisfaction in being surrounded by a slew of "yes people" nor victory in stomping on the defenseless and those are the only activities found on the type B board.

I relish debate Mr. TFQ.

The frustration is when idle people play games in lieu of any real discussion, heated or otherwise.

That's what Zoot is talking about. That's what I'm talking about. That is what many others object to. And you know it.

It also does absolutely nothing for this board...I can't get anyone, liberal or conservative to sign on here. If you were a stranger to the place and logged on any given morning you'd have to be extremely motivated to look beyond a place dominated by vacuity and inanities.

I suppose most people just aren't willing to go to the trouble that I go to...Zoot goes to.....and a host of other busy people who seek*honest* debate.
