Of course, a poster must use his own hosting location rather than strain the original publisher's own bandwidth, and as with experts of printed material, acknowledgment of the original owner would be required, but as far as Aantares bandwidth, the practice would be part of the Social Strata agreement.

No, we don't enjoy unlimited bandwidth... we have a "plan" and with it comes a limited amount of email addys, bandwidth, postings, storage, etc.

What I don't want to have happen is we switch over to a unlimited bandwidth plan only to find we've got piss ugly software generating our forums... or self-proclaimed hotsy-totsy chat software in lieu of Private Topics... or it's $59 unlimited NOW but it's a 3- (or 6- or whatever) month gateway to being raped & pillaged at Social Strata's whim down the line.

I don't know Social Strata and I've yet to see a lotta former-Eve BBs rushing off to Social Strata... but like I said, I'll check it out.

The other issue re: bandwidth is who here might not be able to handle, on their own systems, a more content-rich BB? Like, is anyone here still on dial-up? DSL? If we went hog wild on Aantares, is anyone gonna be excluded because their main access is their iPhone or some such?

And let's be honest... what's the diff between posting a LINK to an image/You Tube video, and posting the image/embedding the video? Some folks might be here but are severely restricted from viewing videos or other streaming media or sucking up a whole lotta bandwidth to see an image... I don't want to limit those folks from participating in the discussion phase just to be a lil' more... ummm... "pretty"? KWIM?

I remember during one particularly tense time she told everyone the righties were supporting the board. I didn't hear you complaining about that.

Singling someone out for recognition is quite different than saying your support is coming primarily from one direction or the other....IMHO.

I do think it's human nature to feel that way as I have in the past.

I said there hasn't been a donation from a RWC donation since June '09... it might've been a month or two earlier than that, but "for sure" not since June. Prior to June-ish '09 RWCs supported Aantares pretty heartily.

And that information is still private... I've only spoken of "groups" and never, not once, have I identified a single individual as a donor or not. If someone posts a public note re: whether I received a donation, or that they're "in" or any other indicator, I've appropriately replied to the note and nothing more.

Now I suppose you c o u l d try to turn this into some sorta cause célèbre and stomp off in a big huff, but why would you?

There were a TON of donation topics when we first went dark, none of 'em started by me... personally I felt I'd let ya'll down because I couldn't pay the nut anymore, so I was much more involved w/ my own shame than with finding a solution that relied on ... well, shall we say "the kindness of strangers"?

The money issue was brought into discussion by members other than me because i made the mistake of quoting the sales pitch given by Social Strata.

It's a community where play does take place as well as engaging in the commerce of thought. Unfortunately some play rougher than others and the administration is presumed to be an impartial ejudicator because when you boil it all down the reduction shows we are all mired in that same guilt from time to time.

The fact is, I do like everyone here and enjoy a rough tussle on occasion but always within the contest of the commerce of thought and never in the context of being just a shooting target.

My statement that no rightie has donated since June 2009 was incorrect.

Three donations in support of Aantares have been made by righties we all know & love in 2009... one late January, one late April and one mid-July.

There're two other donations by those I'm not quite sure of their political affiliation... I'd be willing to split 'em w/ whomever is keeping count if it's important to ya'.

All remaining 2009 donations have come from lefties we all know & love.

I apologize for my error and for any slight incurred by my original statement.

You say "community." I say "playground." I do think the administration is as impartial as possible in view of the fact that this is an avocation, not a vocation and she doesn't get paid for it. I try to remember that when she doesn't respond to me. And should we really need to be policed?

You guys want her to be impartial in her personal views as well and that's asking too much. For example: Each time CJ presents Tuesday with a set of facts that contradict Tuesday's pre-conceived opinion Tuesday has a coniption and shrieks about it being a "LIBERAL" board.

My point. And I reiterate: It works both ways. I have had complaints that are never addressed. You guys think you are the only ones. I deal with it.

I think making jokes about people's ethnicity and revealing their ID should be policed. There's always the alert button.

People are going to make fun of things other people say and if something sounds foolish or stupid, they have a right to comment on that. But when it's all they do, when people are here solely to disrupt the proceedings and destroy this board they should be thrown out. It doesn't help your case, or Charlie's or Tueday's or Ocean's (I do get a kick out of her!) or mine to attach ourselves to their cause.
