As far as I know little or nothing has been mentioned in the media (or on this board) regarding the Christmas bombing attempt also being a strategic effort to destroy Christmas Day and make it a day of mourning rather than one of love and joy.

If hundreds were murdered by the underwear bomber sent by Osama Bin Laden, December 25 would never be the same; clearly what was desired by this Hitler wannabe scum and his minions. What are your thoughts on that theory?

http://www.usatoday.com/news/w...t=Google+Feedfetcher

quote:
... Osama bin Laden claimed responsibility for the failed attempt to bomb a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas in a new audio message released Sunday threatening more attacks on the United States.

...In the minute-long recording released to al-Jazeera Arabic news channel, bin Laden addressed President Obama saying the recent attempt was meant to send a message similar to that of the Sept. 11 attacks.

"The message delivered to you through the plane of the heroic warrior Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was a confirmation of the previous messages sent by the heroes of the Sept. 11," he said. "America will never dream of security....," he added.

"God willing, our raids on you will continue...."

...Abdulmutallab allegedly attempted to blow up his plane as it approached Detroit Metro Airport on Christmas Day. However, the explosive powder he was hiding in his underwear failed to detonate, authorities say.

Was there widespread condemnation of this Christmas Day atrocity attempt from the Muslim international community? I missed it if there was....

Why do you assume that?

Christmas is a very meaningful holiday in America and to most Americans.

Oh, and Christmas is meaningful without any religious connotations...a joyous, happy time of year; Santa Claus, frosty the snowman, friends and family and all that good stuff.

Hopefully they won't figure out a suicide department store Santa would accomplish the same degree of "never be the same".

Big old fat Santa... skinny arab body fat with a suit of explosives, fake white beard hiding the hatred on his face, the overall costume and dynamics of the busy Christmas Season store letting the bomber in,
"where have you been? Don't delay! get up there and see the kids!"
nobody discovering the "real" Santa dead in the bomber's rental van
fat arab fake Santa holding the triplets close, hundreds of others in the ball bearings blast zone... december 21st...

Now imagine a hundred such fake Santas on December 21st

This is asymmetrical warfare at its worst.

You just made my case.
Christmas has been celebrated for centuries. The first Papal decree regarding Christmas came out in the year 440.

One terrorist attack won't change all that history, though I'll grant that it might not be the same for the families involved.

One of reasons 911 happened was that nobody in the Bush administration believed such a tactic would happen.

And don't say clinton warned him. If Clinton was so convinced the tactic was viable he should have used his bully pulpit and his popularity to force greater security efforts at airports.

911 was a failure of imagination all around. We have to do our best to imagine how attacks can be perpetrated.

If I can imagine it, they can imagine it.

No need to shout it to the world though. Just in case they might not have imagined a particular plan.

The Minneapolis FBI office did imagine the possibility after Moussaoui was captured. They were ignored by Bush.

I don't know if the play came form the sideline or if Favre called it or audibled, but assuming the coach did not make that call:

I never imagined Favre would try to throw a pass in that situation... but I bet the coach wishes he had imagined it could happen.

Had the coach imagined such a call, surely he would've been in a better position to stop it.

You attribute too much originality to me... again, if I can imagine such a thing, surely people in a position to do something about it are imagining it too.

If al qaeda is reading this, the very fact the idea has been articulated by regular folks right here, then they will likely figure the DoD has already imagined the play and has countermeasures in place.

I acknowledged the fact the Bush people dropped the ball. I recall watching the attacks that dreadful morning and my first thought was Bush would be impeached for failing to defend the country. We all failed to imagine what happened. We should all prepare as best we can to prevent something dreadful from happening again.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

The cowardly Osama enemy and their disposable minions may be insane, they may be monsters who use and hide behind women and children and even in their own sacred places but they have intelligent and ever bolder minds feverishly working and planning.

Thank you to our defenders for keeping America safe from another 911 type attack.

Christmas remains a time for kind and joyful thoughts in the process....
