Thanks for the update! Amazing that 4 creatures share that space. I gotta have a chair! LOL! But most of all leaving all one's clothes at the cleaners or the office sounds crazy. I could never remember what was where. That seemed the most unrealistic practice.

Minimalist living is commendable, but I could never do it! PS, They need a mirror on the wall to reflect light and space. Queen-size bed? Roll Eyes  There's nothing wrong with a couple sharing a double bed. We did it for many years. It's cozy.

I'd make modifications to the space if it was mine, Peach, as I said before.

I could do one cat, but two would tip it for me. Frown :(

Depending on ceiling height, I'd seriously consider a loft bed with some of my living room under it. And certainly one of those coffee tables that's adjustable from dining/desk height to coffee table height.

I'd go for a one drawer d'washer, too... there's no counter space for a drain board. And I'd mount m'coffee maker under an upper cabinet.

From what I read, the apartment is only accessible by taking an elevator to the floor below, and then taking a set of stairs to it. Given that, I might try putting the cat box on the landing and installing a pet door.

I don't count being able to sleep on a public sidewalk as "living."

No bathroom or cooking facilities... he might as well be "living" in a cardboard box w/ a solar panel on top.

No room for a friend, a pet or anything he's not actively sleeping on top of or under... doesn't sound like much of a life to me.

And what's to prevent someone from rolling him all over town for funsies?

Ever seen the movie New Rose Hotel? The Japanese rent "hotel rooms" that are about the size of a phone booth laying on its side. Nothing but a bed and a television. No "facilities." You're on your own for that.

I've seen pictures of those Japanese capsule hotelS, Gus.

Verra strange things but there is a market for 'em... most of 'em in Tokyo or such large cities were meant for the city businessman who missed his last train home and needed a cheap place to sleep for a single night. I think they could replace hostels due to the individual guest being able to store & secure their stuff which is rarely the case in real hostels.

A NYTimes article also says that some of these capsules are now being let on a monthly basis due to significant unemployment in Japan... better to stay in a capsule than on the streets. Frown :( These hotels have storage lockers that can be rented (for extra clothes & personal possessions) and there're communal bathroom facilities and common areas for residents.

There're a ton of pics of these... things. LOL!

No.

No, no, no. Absolutely, positively no. NFW.

At first I thought my "NO!" was a function of claustrophobia inspired by the inside space, but then I realized that being dwarfed by the two HUGE buildings on either side of the space was what made my palms sweat, my breath to catch and lil' sparkles to appear on my peripheral vision. LOL!
