Boehner: Dealing With the White House 'Has Been Like Dealing With Jell-o'

quote:
In a meeting with a small group of reporters in his Capitol Hill office this morning, House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, criticized President Obama and White House officials for their lack of resolve in negotiations.

“Dealing with them the last couple months has been like dealing with Jell-o,” Boehner said. “Some days it’s firmer than others. Sometimes it’s like they’ve left it out over night.”

Boehner explained that talks broke down over the weekend because, he said, the president backed off entitlement reforms so much from Friday to Saturday, “It was Jell-o; it was damn near liquid.”

“By Saturday, they’d spent the previous day and a half just going backwards” on reforming entitlement programs such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

“The only thing they’ve been firm on is these damn tax increases,” the Speaker said.

The Speaker also made it clear that he believes the President waited too long to get personally involved. When he phoned the president Saturday to give him the bad news about talks breaking down, President Obama seemed surprised but not shocked, the speaker said. The phone call lasted 35-40 minutes.

Boehner said that the tax increases the White House has been pushing for as part of what the president calls “a balanced package” cannot make it through Congress. “What the president is asking us to do just won’t pass,” he said.

One thing Boehner and Obama both agree on – they do not want the U.S. government to default on its debts.

“Nobody wants to go there, because nobody knows what’s going to happen,” Boehner said. “It’s a crapshoot.”

Oh, come on! Nobody believes for a second that the problem lies with the W.H. Eric Cantor, busy making his play for Boehner's job, just said: "Nothing can get through the House... Nothing."

This "oh the W.H. is like jello!" BS is just that -- BS. And everybody knows it.

You guys aren't fooling anybody. For your sake, I hope you aren't fooling yourselves, either.

Soon-to-be-ex-Speaker Boner is a liar. The plain truth is that the teabaggers won't vote for any compromise.

I voted for him, and if he can prove himself, I'll vote for him again, but I swear, I can't figure, for the life of me, what Obama's plan is. I want to believe, I truly do, but I don't think he knows what, exactly, he's doing, and I don't know if I trust who he's asking for advice....

I wish he could 'splain it a little better, for the likes of me, who aren't quite getting it...

I don't think anyone could do a better job, with what they had to start with, BTW, but I want to know it's not more of the same bee-ess.

Give us a sign, por favor...

Obama has staked out a position widely unpopular with the American People and he has also claimed he won't budge. He offers his own position and calls it a "compromise". You don't think folks see right through that? Neither does Obama. You folks quickly disregard any disconfirmatin of your own positions. Good luck with that approach.

2 Years Ago Today Obama Says He’s Responsible For Economy “Give It to Me!” (Video)
quote:

It was two years ago today…

From the video: On July 14, 2009, Obama tells the country that he is responsible for the economy and memorably says, “Give it to me.”

“My administration has a job to do as well. That job is to get this economy back on its feet. That’s my job, and it’s a job I gladly accept. I love these folks who helped get us in this mess and then suddenly say, “Well this is Obama’s economy.” That’s fine. GIVE IT TO ME. My job is to solve problems, not to stand on the sidelines and carp and gripe. So, I welcome the job. I want the responsibility.”

And since that day everything he’s implemented has gone to hell.
Thanks Barack.

The Obama blowout, in league with Nancy Pelosi’s Congress.
quote:

With the recession as a rationale, Democrats consciously blew up the national balance sheet, lifting federal outlays to 25% in 2009, the highest level since 1945. (Even in 1946, with millions still in the military, spending was only 24.8% of GDP. In 1947 it fell to 14.8%.) Though the recession ended in June 2009, spending in 2010 stayed high at nearly 24%, and this year it is heading back toward 25%.

This is the main reason that federal debt held by the public as a share of GDP has climbed from 40.3% in 2008, to 53.5% in 2009, 62.2% in 2010 and an estimated 72% this year, and is expected to keep rising in the future. These are heights not seen since the Korean War, and many analysts think U.S. debt will soon hit 90% or 100% of GDP.

Congress controls the purse strings, and the spending run-up occurred when the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress and the White House.

If Boehner can't even get "the line" right, why should he be trusted re: anything else coming out of his mouth?

For the record, the line is: "Dealing with X is like trying to nail Jell-O to a tree." where X is any category of humans (teenagers, preschoolers, elderly, etc.) the speaker doesn't like, doesn't understand, and wants to be far, far away from.

Sheesh.

So which of the following "entitlement programs" are YOU looking to cut, Zorro?
  • 529 or Coverdell
  • Home Mortgage Interest Deduction
  • Hope or Lifetime Learning Tax Credit
  • Student Loans
  • Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit
  • Earned Income Tax Credit
  • Social Security--Retirement & Survivors
  • Social Security Disability
  • SSI--Supplemental Security Income
  • Pell Grants
  • Unemployment Insurance
  • Food Stamps
  • G.I. Bill
  • Medicare
  • Head Start
  • Medicaid
  • Welfare/Public Assistance
  • Government Subsidized Housing
  • Veterans Benefits
C'mon now... where would YOU cut, and HOW MUCH would you cut from each program, hmmmmm? Careful now, consider the consequences before you speak.

What is this, a list of what taxhikes I'm willing to support? The answer is none. We need to cut spending, not hike taxes. Even Obama's former chief economist, Christina Romer, says tax increases “will tend to slow the recovery in the near term.”

We are already teetering on a new recession, yet Dems want to raise taxes? Do Dems have a death wish?
