Wall Street money for Warren
quote:

I thought Elizabeth Warren was all about transparency. We are all still waiting for her to file the required financial disclosure form.

The Oklahoma Professor has been criticizing Scott Brown for being “Wall Street’s favorite Senator.” She has also denounced “Wall Street cash in politics.”

But it turns out she may be indirectly accepting Wall Street money. The Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee, which is helping the Harvard Professor, has taken over $40 million from Wall Street during the last 7 years according to records from OpenSecrets.org. In fact, Wall Street is the biggest contributors to them. They beat lawyers and labor union. Just during this election season the DSCC has already received $1.5 million from Wall Street.

If Lizzy Warden is truly opposed to Wall Street money, then shouldn’t she reject the DSCC’s money? Otherwise she is just using the DSCC to funnel in Wall Street money

Of course there is.

http://www.dscc.org/

It's dedicated to supporting Democratic candidates for the Senate and welcomes contributions.

So far as I know, it hasn't yet given money for any candidate in MA. There are three announced Democratic Candidates: Consumer Advocate Elizabeth Warren, immigration lawyer Marisa DeFranco, and lawyer James C. King. The DSCC supports the winner of the Democratic primary. It's far too early for it to support Warren.

Notice the word "indirectly" in the column linked.

As far as contributions are concerned, Elizabeth Warren welcomes contributions from anyone who qualifies on her Web site. The qualifications are:
quote:
By clicking on the "Submit" button above you confirm that the following statements are true and accurate:

I am a United States citizen or a lawfully admitted permanent resident of the United States.
I am not a federal contractor.
I am at least 18 years of age.
I am making this contribution, knowingly and voluntarily, on a personal credit or debit card with my own personal funds, not with funds provided to me by another person or entity for the purpose of making this contribution.
This contribution is not made from the general treasury funds of a corporation, labor organization, or national bank.

There is a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

There's no such thing as a Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Holly Robichaud sounds like your typical RWW airhead.

This is just the kind of tortured logic and distortion we've come to expect from Zorro, who can't defend his side with truth and facts.

Just because Warren is dedicated to fighting against illegal and unethical activities of -some- corporations does not mean she is against -all- corporations.

That's like accusing her of being against humanity, because some humans break the law.

Total straw man concoction.

Democrats are not anti-corporations. We are anti-corporate misbehavior and citizenship equivalency.

It's almost like these self-righteous libs are political whores for corporations or somethin.

It reminds me of the preachers that are always railing on sexual sin, then next thing you know there is the crying wife saying she will stand by him after it becomes known that he is banging the organist.

Kind a makes you want to puke a little everytime you hear their high minded pronouncements on how "pure" they are and how "tainted" the other fellow is, you know what I mean?

The original article refers to opensecrets.org, so I went to its site.

There's a complete listing of the funds given to candidates for the 2012 election and--guess what--Elizabeth Warren didn't get a dime from the DSCC. Not one penny.

The article is completely false.

See for yourself:

http://www.opensecrets.org/par...cycle=2012&cmte=DSCC

And, by the way, corporate money means money contributed from a corporation's treasury funds. It does NOT mean money contributed by a person who happens to work for a corporation. People have the right to contribute to political campaigns regardless of where they work. Elizabeth Warren, as I quoted, refuses to accept money from the general treasury funds of a corporation.

Plus, note that ALL the DSCC contributions to candidates were for exactly $43,100 per candidate so far. Not much of an influence for a Senate seat where, I'm sure, there will be millions of dollars raised for Elizabeth Warren before the election.

Plus it's not true that the DSCC has raised $40 million from Wall Street. The DSCC discloses its contributions and the same opensecrets.org site reports them.

quote:
The DSCC is the Democratic Party's chief fundraising committee dedicated to electing Democratic candidates to the U.S. Senate. Totals here include expenditures made both by the main committee and by all its affiliated committees. Senate committees lack expenditure information because they do not file electronically.
Total
Raised: $38,517,295
Spent: $28,026,589
Cash On Hand: $11,244,301
Source:
http://www.opensecrets.org/par...cycle=2012&cmte=DSCC

The major contributors to the DSCC are also disclosed:
quote:
Top IndustriesIndustry Total
Lawyers/Law Firms
$2,836,980
Retired
$2,086,982
Candidate Committees
$1,872,250
Securities & Investment
$1,199,001
Lobbyists
$1,127,764
Real Estate
$657,337
Health Professionals
$650,632
Casinos/Gambling
$628,250
TV/Movies/Music
$590,506
Business Services
$469,161
Computers/Internet
$427,246
Insurance
$400,188
Leadership PACs
$370,000
Education
$356,983
Misc Finance
$348,804
Pharmaceuticals/Health Products
$303,004
Non-Profit Institutions
$286,564
Electric Utilities
$204,250
Health Services/HMOs
$198,294
Civil Servants/Public Officials
$194,174

So under $2 million was raised by the DSCC from Wall Street firms.
