Newt Gingrich lacks the moral character to serve as President, his second ex-wife Marianne told ABC News, saying his campaign positions on the sanctity of marriage and the importance of family values do not square with what she saw during their 18 years of marriage.

In her first television interview since the 1999 divorce, to be broadcast tonight on Nightline, Marianne Gingrich, a self-described conservative Republican, said she is coming forward now so voters can know what she knows about Gingrich.

In her most provocative comments, the ex-Mrs. Gingrich said Newt sought an "open marriage" arrangement so he could have a mistress and a wife.

She said when Gingrich admitted to a six-year affair with a Congressional aide, he asked her if she would share him with the other woman, Callista, who is now married to Gingrich.

"And I just stared at him and he said, 'Callista doesn't care what I do,'" Marianne Gingrich told ABC News. "He wanted an open marriage and I refused."

Marianne described her "shock" at Gingrich's behavior, including how she says she learned he conducted his affair with Callista "in my bedroom in our apartment in Washington."

"He always called me at night," she recalled, "and always ended with 'I love you.' Well, she was listening."

Amid news that Newt Gingrich’s ex-wife Marianne’s interview with ABC will air tonight, a political veteran who has had past ties to Gingrich, reminds me that the former Mrs. Gingrich has long opposed his running for president.

“I think it matters that she’s been saying this **** for years — and has been doing things to tweak him for years,” said this source.

This is actually true.

As the New York Post reminds us today:

In 1995, when Vanity Fair magazine asked Marianne what would happen if Newt ran for president, she boasted she could derail the bid with a single TV interview.

“He can’t do it without me,” she said.

“I told him if I’m not in agreement, fine, it’s easy.

“I just go on the air the next day, and I undermine everything . . . I don’t want him to be president, and I don’t think he should be.”

Gingrich wanted an open marriage, zorro. Is that what the GOP stands for? Is that what Rick Santorum stands for? Is that what most evangelical women want?

So the ex-wife endorsement is pretty much out of the question?

Yeah, the Washington Post says they've got their own Marianne Gingrich interview coming, and it's a separate one. We don't know when it's coming, but they say that it is. Here's a headline from the New York Times: "Former Gingrich Wife Says He Asked for Open Marriage." Now, folks, this is the same New York Times that never ran one article about John Edwards cheating on his cancer-stricken wife. Do you remember ABC, CBS, NBC, Washington Post, New York Times would get nowhere near the John Edwards story? That was a National Enquirer exclusive, and the mainstream media was dragged kicking and screaming to it. Hell, Newt was married to Marianne for 18 years. Do you realize that's a lifelong commitment in Hollywood terms? That's a lifetime marriage, in Hollywood.

First, I think that may be another of PigBoy's lies.

Why do you quote liars F.Righty?

Second, do you think the situations are anywhere near the same?

No. Accusations shouldn't be reported as facts until the facts are known despite it turning out to be true.

"Documents related to the divorce filed Friday in Cobb County Superior Court include a separation agreement signed by the couple and notarized in December 1987."
quote:

There is no indication it was ever filed.

Browning said Marianne Gingrich called her husband on his birthday in June 1987 to tell him she was leaving him. Gingrich, he said, came back to Georgia to find his home emptied out.

Browning said the pair maintained separate residences for six years before reconciling in late 1993 or early 1994.

How come this cnn panel is 4 dudes, one transitional (and sitting like a dude), and only one person wearing a skirt?

And the woman in the skirt apparently is in love with newton...

...next? Nah, I think she's way too old for him.

Frankly.....I agree with Newt Gingrich that it was despicable of ABC to kneecap him with the interview of his ex-wife on the eve of the South Carolina primary - and for CNN to open a Presidential Debate with a question about it.

However, I thought it was equally despicable of the Media and Republicans to sniff through Bill Clinton's underwear - and I vividly recall Gingrich in 1998, rolling out a $10 million TV campaign against Democrats with the single focus of Clinton and Lewinsky. Gingrich defended the ads saying, "I will never again, as long as I am speaker, make a speech without commenting on this topic."

Well, what goes around, comes around, eh? That said, I hope he trounces that empty suit, "Cayman Mitt."

Bill Clinton's

Clinton's problem was that he lied under oath, lied to the court, arranged for others to submit false testimony. Had Bill Clinton simply told the truth when he swore to the court to tell the truth, he would have had no problems, but he chose to lie.

But you know how it is with Dems, everything, always, is someone elses fault.

What we on the left of center need to realize is that Newt Gingrich is a master performer. He played that audience of right wing nuts brilliantly and imo may very well win the SC Primary. Romney continued to fumble.
Forget the issues. This was a cheer leading event and Newt Won.
