Hey, What Happened To Obama's Promise To Review Regulations And End Those That Were Hurting Business?
quote:

One of the chief tics of Obama's speaking style is a technique I call lying.

He likes to say things that will please the public, and demonstrate to them he is looking for a middle path.

But after the speech is over, he does not follow through on the promise.

Well, I agree that we can’t afford wasteful spending, and I’ll work with you, with Congress, to root it out. And I agree that there are some rules and regulations that do put an unnecessary burden on businesses at a time when they can least afford it. (Applause.) That’s why I ordered a review of all government regulations. So far, we’ve identified over 500 reforms, which will save billions of dollars over the next few years. (Applause.) We should have no more regulation than the health, safety and security of the American people require. Every rule should meet that common-sense test. (Applause.)

Darrell Issa released a report blasting regulatory fever.

He should call up Obama. This Obama chap seems very, very interested indeed in cutting unnecessary regulations, and wasteful spending too!

It must be some alternate universe that you're living in, Zorro. You keep posting diatribes that simply ignore reality and facts.

It was only a month ago that the Obama administration announced another round of regulation cutting:

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration disclosed plans Tuesday to cut or roll back hundreds of federal regulations, including some that will streamline tax forms at the Internal Revenue Service, let railroad companies pass on installing expensive new technology, and speed up the visa process for low-risk visitors to the U.S.

The administration said the regulations will save businesses up to $10 billion over the next five years and spur job growth in the private sector.

The move, announced while President Barack Obama was on vacation in Martha's Vineyard, was the latest White House gesture to reach out to a business community that has often felt alienated from the administration.
...

Administration officials said the plans unveiled Tuesday include 500 regulatory reforms, including more than 100 from the Department of Transportation and more than 70 from the Department of Health and Human Services. Once the reforms are fully implemented, the administration estimates businesses will save about $10 billion over five years.
...

Many of the regulatory reforms are designed to help small businesses, the administration said. Those include accelerating payments to as many as 60,000 small businesses that have contracts with the Department of Defense, and requiring the Small Business Administration to adopt a single electronic application in order to reduce paperwork burdens.
...

Obama called for federal agencies to scrutinize their existing regulations after his party suffered sweeping losses in the 2010 elections. The president acknowledged at the time that his relationship with the business community had soured, and he vowed to scrap "dumb" rules that were hindering private sector growth.

Sunstein said the reforms would not impact regulations needed to protect consumers and the environment, including rules used by the Federal Aviation Administration to ensure safe air travel and by the Department of Agriculture and Food and Drug Administration to protect food safety.

Back in May,

Obama to scale back regulations in effort to spur economic growth

By Zachary A. Goldfarb, Published: May 26

The Obama administration announced 30 plans Thursday to scale back or eliminate hundreds of federal regulations and save American companies billions of dollars in unnecessary costs.

The proposals, the latest attempt by the administration to burnish its pro-business credentials, will affect workplace safety, environmental protection, endangered species and a number of other areas. Many of the changes involve reducing paperwork or eliminating redundancies in the law.
...
One of the proposals, by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, would ensure that required hazard labels and classifications in the United States are the same as those used in other nations, which could save companies $585 million a year.

Another, by the Environmental Protection Agency, would eliminate the requirement that states install a system to protect against fuel polluting the air at gas stations, since modern vehicles already have these systems. That would save up to $67 million a year.
...
Among other proposals to be outlined in Thursday’s speech is an OSHA rule that would free businesses from filling out unnecessary government forms. The departments of Commerce and State will undertake steps to make it easier for U.S. companies to export products. And the Department of Health and Human Services will review duplicative requirements facing hospitals and doctors, such as having to enter the same information into databases multiples times.

So what do we see here, Zorro? We see that the Obama administration moved swiftly after taking office to analyze the rules and regulations, assess which are needed and which are not, make careful specific decisions on what could be cut without affecting the health or safety of Americans or the requirements of anti-fraud controls and the like. Suggestions were received from all sources, analyzed, recommendations were made, and many were and will be implemented.

Meanwhile, as all this public work went on, Obama constantly gets assaulted for not doing what he has been doing right along. I imagine he could eliminate another few thousand rules and regulations and still be accused of doing nothing. Sad, really.

And, may I remind you--the rules were not made by the Obama administration. They were there already when Obama took office. How come George W. Bush, in office for eight years, did NOTHING to get rid of ANY of them? And how come you were silent about that? Huh?

Go right ahead. Continue to blame Obama for things he hasn't done, and ignore the things he has done.

Yes he announces plans...then throws a monkey wrench into the economy
quote:

the administration has imposed 75 new major regulations costing more than $380 billion over 10 years.

Right now, there are a number of economically significant regulations in the pipeline, which, if finalized, could result in significant costs on the economy, in some cases, a single regulation will impose a cost of at least $100 million annually on the economy.

Essentially, the administration has presided over a regulatory expansion that has been completely negligent of its economic impact.

But beyond the actual costs of individual regulations, we have found a deeper, more systemic problem with the regulatory process itself that, if allowed to continue unchecked, will have devastating consequences for our nation’s economy.

Simply put, the regulatory process is broken, being manipulated and exploited in an effort to reward allies of the administration such as environmental groups, trial lawyers and unions. The federal regulatory agencies charged with serving as watchdogs over the regulatory process have failed to take meaningful action to address the breakdown in the regulatory development and implementation process.
