Romney's claim came in the middle of discussion of his economic plan at a campaign stop in Iowa. After skipping the Iowa Straw Poll this summer, he is taking a more aggressive approach to the state now that its primary is looming.

Romeny has touted his economic policies as beneficial to the middle class. Pointing out that they involve large corporate and estate tax cuts, one audience member asked, "It doesn't put any money in my pocket...how will this help the middle class?"

"I'm not looking to put money in people's pockets," the GOP hopeful replied. "That's the other party.

Don't believe it? Watch the video here.

The GOP does want to redistribute as much money as it can upward into the pockets of the 1-percent.

Yes, the GOP would bankrupt the country and put everybody out of a job if they thought it could help them politically.

They've already proven that.

Zorro,

FYI, a nation's economic plan should be designed to benefit ALL of its citizens. That's basic.

If you are able bodied middle class working age and you want a check from the government, the GOP is not for you. Good on Mitt to tell it to you straight up. If you are an able bodied, middle class working leech, you will want to vote for the Democrat. Way to give these clowns the middle finger, straight up Mitt

The minute Obama was sworn into office he was already campaigning for 2012. It's typical among repubs too!

That's not what Mitt was asked. Read the material please.

Mitt has repeated stated that his economic policies are beneficial to the middle class. Someone asked him how. No one asked him for a hand out.

Alas, you read the reply.

To deny that a nation's economic policies should enure to the benefit of all its citizens, not just a few wealthy ones, is.....well, basically ignorant.

Zorro:

You are confusing tax policy with entitlements.

quote:
Part of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s (R) plan to boost economic growth, he says, is a tax cut that comes in the form of repealing certain taxes on investments for the middle class. As ThinkProgress has noted, however, those cuts won’t actually benefit most middle-class individuals. Romney may now be aware of that fact, as he told one local resident in Des Moines, Iowa today that he isn’t “trying to put money in people’s pockets. That’s the other party.”

Despite what he says, Romney is indeed trying “to reduce the tax burden…that’s paid by the top one percent.” His tax plan, in fact, gives a $6.6 billion tax cut to corporations and the wealthiest Americans.

Being an able-bodied working American, Obama put money in my pocket and the pockets of many of my peers with his payroll tax cut.

Why is it that the GOP can so easily grant "money in the pocket" to (mayhaps even non-working) Americans in the form of tax cuts for the uber-rich, but balk each and every time a working American might get a few bucks in his paycheck/pocket?

More silly crap from yet another democrat: I'm fine with raising taxes to reduce the deficit but ONLY AFTER we put a stop to runaway spending. I'm not for raising taxes on ANYONE so long as spending is completely out of control.

First of all, it isn't "silly crap" and secondly the conventional wisdom is that revenue must be raised to even begin to recover our economy. No one disagrees with careful spending cuts. Only a healthy economy will benefit the middle class. Mitt's remarks missed the mark in a big way.

You didn't even pretend to address Romney's remarks much less CJ's, therefore replying to your posts is a thundering waste of time.
