To some extent, vic, but let's at least allow them their closet, along with the bedroom, sofa, and the kitchen table--anywhere discreet is fine. As a social conservative, I'd consider boinking in the town square or in front of a school to be in poor taste, whether it be straight or gay...

Perhaps you should read my response and your quote that invited the response...before you go off half-cocked and provide yet another footnote of evidence to be used at your inevitable competency hearings.

So you think that people should keep their sexuality in the closet?
People, you mentioned, so I referred to people. Only restrictions I might have implied are minors, who aren't full-fledged people...yet, and corporations, which I don't consider people, no matter what the Supremes think.
So, I responded: "...but let's at least allow them their closet, along with the bedroom, sofa, and the kitchen table--anywhere discreet is fine. As a social conservative, I'd consider boinking in the town square or in front of a school to be in poor taste, whether it be straight or gay." Doesn't look like I'm distinguishing between the two, does it? Do us both a favor, vic, and read my previous posts on the subject.

The problem is, in widely accepted usage, that's not what "closet" means in this context. It has nothing to do with where one performs sex acts, and everything to do with being afraid to, nor not being allowed to, reveal one's sexual orientation. Being forced, by law or custom or prejudice, not to reveal one's sexual orientation can be crippling. Certainly no one, straight or gay, is under an obligation to announce his/her sexual preference, but only gays have to hide it. You never hear of a straight person being in, or coming out of, the closet.

So it seems that your answer to the question of whether people should keep their sexuality in the closet (not their sex acts in the bedroom) was to change the subject.

So...do you think people should keep their sexuality in the closet?

Choice and sexual orientation are completely different issues. You can certainly choose to go against your sexual orientation -- it's something many gays have always done. It probably won't make you happy, and you probably won't -- unless you're dealing with unbearable social pressure -- do it for very long.

I am, of course, delighted that Zorro has come out so strongly in favor of a woman's right tp choose. But it has nothing to do with the argument -- not really an argument any more, it's been pretty much estblished -- about whether or not sexual orientation is a choice.

Of course not, mole. Such minor details need not be hidden, solicited, or flaunted. There's a goodly gay population in my neighborhood, and they don't seem to mind that I'm a breeder--and only causes awkward situations when someone's gaydar has malfunctioned. Reciprocally, I don't give a rip who one is boinking, or even who they're marrying.

The only "choice" any of us face is whether to be one's self or not.

People that believe sexual orientation is a choice must be struggling with such a choice themselves.

Maybe!

Here is my unscientific opinion:
Most people have an element of biosexuality within them. That is why guys have good buddys and girls have close girlfriends. With some this attraction is compelling. With others it is not even noticed.

Just my opinion.
