The Obama administration will reject the Keystone XL pipeline Wednesday afternoon, according to a source closely following the issue.

The State Department is expected to make an announcement at 3 p.m. Wednesday. While the administration is expected to reject TransCanada Corp.’s permit application, it will allow the company to re-apply, according to the source.

GOP out-foxed again!

As always, the final decision rests with an approved route, full environmental assessment and consent of Nebraska.

In case there's any doubt about who put the "kibosh" on the pending plans:

quote:
"This announcement is not a judgment on the merits of the pipeline, but the arbitrary nature of a deadline that prevented the State Department from gathering the information necessary to approve the project and protect the American people," Obama said in a statement. "I'm disappointed that Republicans in Congress forced this decision, but it does not change my Administration's commitment to American-made energy that creates jobs and reduces our dependence on oil."

The price of gasoline is up 87% since Obama took office and going higher as Iran threatens to close the Straits. We have a chance to get a reliable source from a friendly country and Obama kills it. I bet OPEC is having a good laugh.

The price of gas is dictated by your friends at the oil companies.

Domestic production has never been higher, and none of the Canadian oil is targeted for U.S. consumption. The whole idea of the pipeline is to send it to the Gulf, where it will be shipped overseas. All we get is the pollution, plus a few temporary jobs.

Like old whores, they constantly bend over for the oil companies, then complain about being stiffed by gas prices.

Righties are desperately trying to assign some underhanded dealing with this decision, but it was purely the product of Republicans assigning an arbitrary deadline to the approval process.

That is just dumb. Once the oil is at the refinery, how could you be so dumb as to think it would be more cost effective to now load this up on a ship and ship it to an overseas refinery? Are all Libs this economicallly ignorant or are you a special case?

I wonder where all this anti-pipeline rhetoric was prior to Obama's decision?

And it matters very little if Canada threatens to sell the oil to China because it will all go overseas anyway.

Libs want US Energy Starvation, their agenda requires it. First they create scarcity, then they dole out goodies to who they choose.

And their job "counting" as always is suspect. While some Dems pushback on the 22,000 jobs for the 1700 mile pipeline, other Dems claim, with a straight face, that 43,000 jobs will be created by a 1.7 mile subway extension.

I wonder what the postponement of the Keystone Pipeline decision will do to the eminent domain cases making their way through the courts from Nebraska to Texas... courts have 34 eminent domain actions against landowners in Texas, an additional 22 actions in South Dakota and 45 landowners are represented in Nebraska to fight condemnation actions.

Where does a foreign company have the right to seize American land w/out a license, permit, hell, some type of "go ahead" to build the pipeline?

Obama ought to nix the whole thing unless the oil is refined and distributed in the U.S. They could cut this pipeline by 2/3's and deliver the oil to some new, modern facilities built in the Midwest. Then we'd have permanent jobs and cheaper fuel for Americans.

One can easily determine what bad tricks Republicans are pulling by listening to their accusations against Dems.

ROTF :rotf: You think people don't ship oil overseas because it is "economically ignorant" ???

Maybe you should re-think that.

TransCanada considers new plans: Keystone pipeline may be built in stages in U.S. first

quote:
TransCanada Corp. is considering building U.S. portions of its Keystone XL pipeline and later seeking approval of an Alberta link to circumvent the Obama administration's rejection of the $7-billion project.

There is no requirement for a presidential permit to lay pipe anywhere in the United States, provided the line doesn't extend across the border into Canada.

On the table is a segment between the oversupplied oil storage hub of Cushing, Okla., and Gulf Coast refining centres in Texas, as well as a longer line from Montana to the Gulf Coast, executives said Thursday.

"I think that clearly, with yesterday's decision, we are now open to amending or changing our plans to building this in segments," TransCanada chief executive Russ Girling told an investor conference in Whistler, B.C. "As we've said before, that's dependent on the interest of our shippers in doing that."

Building an Oklahoma-to-Texas section alone would cost TransCanada $2 billion, said Girling, who told investors the company has already spent $1.9 billion on the Keystone XL project.

Alex Pourbaix, TransCanada's president of energy and oil pipelines, said the company will also take the next few weeks to examine carving out a longer portion of the project to connect oil from the Bakken shale in Montana with the Gulf Coast.

Libs haven't allowed a new refinery to be built in this nation for thirty five years.
