This really belongs on the Pet Board, but I will make a couple of brief comments. We have the pure bred minpin and the half beagle. They are mostly all bark and no bite, but they can sure raise a racket. Many burglers want to get in and out quietly and when dogs start barking, it breaks the silence and often that is all it takes.

So yes, small dogs can be excellent watch dogs.
