I didn't know that. I only knew that he was a Veteran and a very, very nice man with a great deal of intelligence and kindness.

Once he sent me a photo of his family.

RIP William.

This is so incredibly sad. Not unexpected, but very sad anyway. William was one of my favorite people on Aantares. I always believed his stories about how the Archangel Michael saved his life during the Korean War, and I know it meant a lot to him that I did.

RIP William

There are some wonderful photos at his online guestbook (CJ's provided a link above). In fact, if you click on the first photo on the guestbook page and then continue to click "next," you'll see more photos than there are thumbnails on the guestbook page itself.

Rest in peace, William.

William was always a welcome correspondent, with a change of pace, and a kindred spirit.

Indeed he will continue to be missed. His stories were a treasure.

Can you IMAGINE having been a guard at Nuremburg? I'm stunned that I actually "knew" someone who carried that incredible piece of history w/ him... "This We'll Defend" and William certainly did.

I don't believe I remember William. What was his signature name that he posted under? My condolences to his family and his friends. I visited Nuremberg in June and saw the famous courtroom where the Nazi's were tried for war crimes as well as viewing the Nazi rally grounds and their buildings. I wish I had known William and learned more about Nuremberg. One of my friends at Tesoro C/C in Florida, her mother has married a WWII soldier who was the photographer at the Nuremberg war crimes tribunal.

Incidentally, isn't this about the same time William Penn Fallin also died just a year ago now?

Oh no... I'm saddened to hear that yet another member of this nation's greatest generation has passed away.

They lived the effects of the great depression... served at home (civilians worked hard in support of) and fought our enemies abroad across the globe... and gave us, their progeny, a better and safer world. On the one hand, they seemed proud of what we have accomplished, thanks to the opportunities resulting from their noble efforts. OTOH, they seemed saddened by what this nation has become. For it is this very day... divided by those FOR and AGAINST the very fascist values which they fought so hard to subdue during their lifetimes.

October 2011 has claimed two of these honorable men (and likely others not documented here)... in addition to William, my dad (WWII - 550th Airborne) passed away October 3rd. We salute you both!

William was a close friend of mine and until recently we had bi-weekly lunches together. I believe that William's declining health precluded continuing these wonderful times. I also knew two of his sons, one of whom was a Buddhist scholar btw, and a daughter. And I am particularly grieved by the fact that I did not do more to try to stay in contact in recent months.
William was a wonderful, caring and remarkable man, and my life is much fuller for having known him.
So much more that I could say but I'll leave it there.
RIP Harry

John, if you feel at all inclined to say more -- or when you do -- I'd love to hear about William, and I'll be others would too. I didn't really know him at all, but the photos have caught my interest -- from the old ones when he was a young man to the more recent ones where he's surrounded by family.
