LECH WALESA: The real reason Bloomberg backed down

Everyone,

If you want to know why Mayor Bloomberg postposed the evacuation and cleanup of Zuccotti Park, look no further than this link. If a picture is worth a thousand words, what are seven very well-chosen pictures worth? Especially if they are presented at the right time?

It's all so simple even a teabagger can understand it!

Even the corpomedia can understand it. And Mayor Bloomberg definitely understands it. After all, we can't have images of his storm troopers mauling and mace-ing protesters when Lech Walesa is in town, publicly giving his support to Occupy Wall Street!

Talk about the mother of all public relations disasters...nope, no way, no how. What happens next is anybody's guess.

The company that owns the park postponed the clean-up which Bloomberg says was because of pressure put on the company by politicians supporting the protest. Bloomberg says the clean-up can by done at any time.

Lech Walesa, former Polish president, to visit New York in support of Occupy Wall Street
By Corky Siemaszko
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Wednesday, October 12th 2011, 12:23 PM

Solidarity hero Lech Walesa is flying to New York to show his support for the Occupy Wall Street protesters.

"How could I not respond," Walesa told a Polish newspaper Wednesday. "The thousands of people gathered near Wall Street are worried about the fate of their future, the fate of their country. This is something I understand."

A former shipyard worker who led Poland's successful revolt against Soviet communism, Walesa said "capitalism is in crisis" and not just in America.

"This is a worldwide problem," he told the Lublin-based Dziennik Wschodni newspaper. "The Wall Street protesters have focused a magnifying glass on the problem."

Protest organizers said they will welcome Walesa with open arms.

"He fought very, very hard for the rights of all working people," said Doug Forand of the 99 New York campaign, which is affiliated with OWS.

Support from a world-class working-class hero like Walesa puts more pressure on Wall St. and on the government to get "the wealthiest 1% to do their share to create jobs and get us through this economic crisis," he said.

Again, you lie. The Viet Nam veterans, who are also protesting, would take great offense at that comment since they saw their comrades make the ultimate sacrifice fighting communism.

Babbling again.Lech Walesa was a union organizer and activist.
Which, by F.Righty's tortured logic, makes him a communist.

Pepper spray used at San Diego 'Occupy' protest

quote:
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego police on Friday used pepper spray to break up a human chain formed by anti-Wall Street demonstrators at a downtown plaza where they've camped for a week.

Police in the early morning began removing about a half-dozen tents after warning demonstrators their personal belongings couldn't stay in the Occupy San Diego camp. Demonstrators can continue protesting without the tents, tarps and tables, authorities said.

One man was arrested before 8 a.m. for interfering with a police officer after he sat down and refused to take away his tent, police Lt. Andra Brown said. After he and his tent were removed, other demonstrators erected another tent and formed a human chain around it.

Shortly before noon, officers pulled apart the protesters and used pepper spray to disperse them.

No one was arrested or injured during that action, assistant Chief Boyd Long said. But protesters said several demonstrators were suffering burning eyes from the pepper spray.

I believe the park is uniquely privately and publicly owned;one of several dozen in the city.

Therefore, the protesters have every right to be there.

Further, they cleaned it up themselves. Peacefully and in good faith.

Further, if ya wanna call somebody fleabaggers, consider yourself insulting our brave troops overseas. My brother in Vietnam, and the troops fighting in Afghanistan are far more likely to be hygienically deficient.

It sure looks that way. Disappointing...if he were going to show up, we would have heard something more about it by now.

Just as good in a different way, though: At age 92, Pete Seeger sang for #OWS last night!

Yep...one of the most memorable moments of OWS thus far...

(AP) NEW YORK -- Folk music legend Pete Seeger and '60s folk singer Arlo Guthrie joined Occupy Wall Street demonstrators in their campaign against corporate greed while residents near the protest park encampment pushed to regain some peace and quiet in their neighborhood.

Seeger joined in the Occupy Wall Street protest Friday night, replacing his banjo with two canes as he marched with throngs of people in New York City's tony Upper West Side past banks and shiny department stores.

The 92-year-old Seeger, accompanied by musician-grandson Tao Rodriguez Seeger, composer David Amram and bluesman Guy Davis, shouted out the verses of protest anthems as the crowd of about 1,000 people sang and chanted.

They marched peacefully over more than 30 blocks from Symphony Space, where the Seegers and other musicians performed, to Columbus Circle. Police watched from the sidelines.

At Columbus Circle, Seeger and friends walked to the chant of "We are the 99 percent" and "We are unstoppable; another world is possible." Seeger stopped to bang a metal statue of an elephant with his cane — to cheers from the crowd.

At the center of the plaza, Seeger and Amram were joined by Guthrie in a round of "We Shall Overcome," a protest anthem made popular by Seeger.

Harpy,

I heard about that last night...a truly mythical moment in the future histories of the Occupation. It's hard to find adequate works for something that powerful, except maybe J.R.R. Tolkien's "Legends spring from the grass and walk the earth like men."

I would have given a lot to see that. I guess the videos will soon be on YouTube if they aren't already, but it's just not the same as being there.
