I think Koka knew what she was doing when she built her winter-den. If things start to creak, she'll be on it in a flash. She may have to call in some amigos, but that's what you do when you live where she does.

And that's typical for your region? My friend Judy told me she's got tulip flowers booming in her yard, five miles from here. My fish are hungry and lively, most days, or a portion thereof. We have a fringe of snow in the deep spots where the shovels and snowplows tossed it. The floor of the forest is bare. In January. In New England. Flip, flop.
