Never goes away...

Even after the passage of the Health Care Reform Bill in the House of Representitives, there is still debate and a movement to repeal it even before the President has the chance to sign it into law.

There is a much larger picture in this scenario. Health care has been withheld from people for a variety of reasons. Many people cannot afford the premiums. Many people have found that the premiums have gone up faster than their income. Some people have pre-existing conditions that proclude them from getting policies. Some lose it from unemployment or their employers drop them because of expense or health insurance companies drop the employer because of the outlay of claims.

Health care in these United States has been for the past decades a FOR-PROFIT enterprise, benefitting not the recipients of the health care, but the stockholders of the corportations that pay the executives huge saleries and bonuses, pay huge dividends to the stockholders and then pay little on the care provided by the paying customers (the policyholders).

The Ethics I cite are as follows:

Business Ethics command that a company make a profit to stay in existence. (That is a given).

Biomedical Ethics demand that the best care be provided for the patient.

One of these has to suffer under the other. Can you tell which one?

If we do not change the present system, I predict that eventually the only people with health insurance will be the very wealthy and government officials.

One question that was never answered by anyone is: "Why does Members of Congress have better health care than their constituents?" After all, in theory, the constituents are the EMPLOYERS of Members of Congress!
