The corn souffle sounds good and interesting. Living on the West Coast I'm hours behind you left coasters and dinner will be later this afternoon. I bought a pre-cooked meal with a smoked turkey that I picked up last night and dropped it off at my father's house for his caregiver to heat up today. I try to take some of the effort off of her when I can. She was my mother's caretaker. My mother passed this spring and this will be the first holiday without her being there. Although she needed full care, had to fed the last couple of years and rarely spoke, giving one word answers to questions, she was still there. (And always like to eat). She will be missed. Luckily, there will be enough family and friends so we won't suffer the "empty chair". The caregiver (not even sure if that is the proper term for her as she is now running the whole household) is a real jewel. My father has declined enough that last year or so she has now had to shift her attention to him. She is bringing some of her friends who also do the same kind of work. They are all from Figi and it makes for an interesting gathering. She is also a wonderful cook but IMO favors her garlic a little too much. But she cooks it down well so it is not too intrusive on the food itself but at times the house...well, you know when she is cooking. I planted a six pack of garlic a few years ago so we could try some garden fresh spice. It likes our climate here too well. I'm going to have to pull about half of it and dry it as it multiplies faster than she can use it. If I don't, I will end up with a field full of it. Maybe I'll become a garlic farmer as a hobby if I decide to leave my job. Hmmm. Maybe I'm already one. |

I love garlic. You can't get too much into any dish for me. I didn't know it was so easy to grow. What kind of soil do you have? If you want the Corn Souffle Recipe, it is easy. I will find it and post it for you. I am sure you will miss your Mom today but you have nice memories, so maybe this will turn into a trip down memory lane for your family. Yes, you are very lucky to have someone to care for your Dad. You read so much about how elders are mistreated, it's scary. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pheebs |

Dougie -
How wonderful that you have somebody that takes such good care of your father. My aunt was fortunate too to have found this wonderful Haitian woman that helped her take care of my grandmother. I'm sure your mother will be missed... my dad passed on in '99, and his absence is still felt especially during the holidays. My brother was commenting today that he still hasn't mastered carving the turkey, as that was always dad's job (and I took it on after he was gone, as I had been away from home for so long and HAD to learn how to do it right!) BTW Pheebs - that was a sneaky, low down rotten thing to do, eating all that skin... shame on you! And yes, the stuffing got rave reviews, but I let everyone know ahead of time that "The Directress" had nothing to do with making it!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lori |

Even though it's only in the 20's here today, I was playing Mah

Don't you hate it when that happens??? Between my water and my tea habit, I spend so much time in the can, it's not funny. My commute is about an hour each way, and I'm drinking tea on the way in and on the way home... and believe you me, anybody that stands between me and the bathroom door when I get home is a FOOL!!!
Woo-woo! You're independently wealthy!!! You hit the motherlode!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lori |

Yes, I can now buy a glass of tea. <G> Or a Power Ball ticket.
Yes, the peeing problem is why I hate to travel. I have to go thirsty cause it's too dang cold to get out on the way down and too hot on the way back and I really hate public bathrooms. What a topic. LOL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Pheebs |

Wow, aren't you the big spender... Enough of the bathroom humor, already... sheesh... how 'bout a little decorum around here... I got the neatest mug for my aunt tonite at the tea shop (she just got in a bunch of the most adorable stuff... OMG) it's green and white vertical stripes and it says "Irish Goddess"... I had to get the travel mug like it for me... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lori |

I love my tea room... I'm there twice a day, five days a week (it's too far a haul for me to make it on my off days)... I phone in my morning tea when I'm about ten minutes out, and I phone in my evening tea as I'm walking out of my office as I'm leaving for the day. The only time I can't get my evening tea is Sundays, because they close at 6, and I don't get out of work till 7. Pat is such a sweetie... she has such a great selection of teapots and cups and mugs and other trinkets... I could quite easily go broke in the place. The food is wonderful too!
