You deserve to take it easy for a day!
What you gonna get at the Mall?
I just copied some recipes from 30 min meals.
I need a new hobby. Cooking is too fattning. <G>
I found some great crock pot recipes for soups.
I just can't wait till it gets cold enough to
want a pot of soup. One for Mexican Meatball soup looks
good as the one for Italian Meatball Wedding Soup.

I love crock pot cooking. I make ribs in mine... or roast. Really nice to come home after a long day at work and have dinner ready to go. I just toss a roast in there with some baby carrots and chunked up potatoes and some of that Lipton Onion Soup mix and water... put it on low, and it's ready to eat when you get home after a long day at work. Still a ways off from being cool enough to think about stuff like beef pot pie... ~~sigh~~ Probably about another six to eight weeks away to even consider wearing a light jacket at night.

Mom's birthday is coming up, and she's wanting a new bathrobe, so we'll look for that. Going to Belk's 'cause it's free gift with purchase time at Lancome, and they are the only folks I can find that make a decent navy blue mascara... may as well get my free goodies while I'm at it. Going to Joann's to get some eyelash yarn to make my fuzzy flip flops and some Pizzaz to do the prototype on the purse. Gotta go to Dillard's too, 'cause it's free gift with purchase time at Clinique and I need more eye cream and Erin needs eye makeup remover, so more free goodies for us. They have candles on sale at Yankee Candle too...

They had a wellness fair at work this week... cholesterol screening (passed with flying colors... well above and beyond healthy!) blood pressure, body fat (OK, let's not go there...) chiropractors, chair massage, fruit and granola bars and bagels... oh my! They had these women from BeautiCOntrol that do home spa parties and the like... I tried this lotion and a body butter that was called Spa sugar (not the brown sugar line... tho' they have one of those too...) OMG... the smell is heavenly! Really light and delicate... and it's not sticky or greasy... feels almost like silk going on! I'm glad I found it, 'cause I was using the Pure Simplicity line from Bath and Body Works in cocoa, and all they have left is the body butter... I asked about it, and they said they were told to box up everything else and send it back to corporate... so, as usual, something I (and Erin) really, really like is probably being discontinued. The story of my life... Roll Eyes

Sounds like a full day at the Mall. I love the Loncome and Clinique freebies. Glad you told me. I have a gift card left over from Christmas for Boscov's up here, which is equal to Belk's there. Glad you told me. I will try to
get up there tomorrow and get some goodies.
I just love Dillard's. I wish we had them up here.
Do you have Kohl's down there yet? I got some Grassroots moisturizer and eye cream and just love it. Not a bank account breaker either. You can
also order it on line.
Have fun tomorrow! I am making turkey leg soup in my crock pot tomorrow.
I turn up the AC and pretend it's cold. LOL

We just got Kohl's here last year, and there's one not too far from the house. The Lancome freebie you get to pick between two give aways... I may be in luck, 'cause Mom needs something from there too, so she can get the other freebie... she usually doesn't use much of what's in it anyway. I've used Clinique for over 25 years, and I just love it. I started Erin on their skincare line about a year and a half ago, and it does the best job of anything we've tried yet at keeping her breakouts under control.

I love Dillard's giftware department at Christmas... I have found some of the neatest ornaments and stuff there... Burdines's used to get neat Florida-like stuff at Christmas too... and I positively adore Macy's... I've gotten some killer deals on their clearance racks...

Hmmm... food reference.... I just polished off a bowl of Publix's light butter pecan ice cream... mmmmm....

I like Clinique too. They give good freebies. So
does Loncome. I save up to buy two mascara removers
and then I ask for a freebie for each one. Never been
turned down yet. I do get tired of the lip sticks though.
Never use any of them. I have used Estee Lauders Apricot Splash
All Day Lipstick forever. It's the only Estee item I like.
One of our local wonderful Dept Stores sold out to Macy's.
It opens this week. I love Macy's too.
I like Dillard's for nice quality tops at a reasonable
price and the free samples they give you at the perfume
counter.
I loved Dillard's back when it used to be Robinson's, then it
was some other store then Meson Blanc . I still have my credit cards
for each place. But Robinson's was the best. I used to go shoe shopping
there when we were on leave from overseas for my Mushroom's or Famalarie's.
Can't get either brand now. They were such comfy sandals. I would stock up each visit. They were the only ones I could wear when I started to get foot problems. We only came home once a year and boy did my shoes take a beating.
I also got undies there. And white jeans.
I know you are gonna have fun tomorrow.

I remember the many incarnations and re-incarnations of what is now Dillard's... Maison Blanche, Robinson's, and Gayfers... Burdines was sold to Macy's (I adored Burdines... but do LOVE shopping at Macy's wink  ) We used to have a chain called Parisian's, which became McRae's for about a year, which is now Belk's... Who up there sold out to Macy's?

I remember when my mom and I would catch the train in Hatboro and ride into downtown Philly... we'd go to Gimbel's, Wanamaker's, Litz, Strawbridge & Clothiers... I want to say there was another department store, and I can't think of the name. We'd eat lunch at Horn & Hardart's, and I always thought of that as if it were a five-star restaurant when I was a kid!

I used to love getting my shoes at Fanfares (which was a division of Connie shoes) I was able to get really good, comfortable shoes... and they always had fabulous sales!

I miss having Jordan Marsh down here...

I posted about the stores on your Crochet topic. It was Bamburger's
you were trying to think of.
I missed Gayfer's. That must have been a flash in the pan.
Another store I loved was Ivy's. They had the nicest
things for the house.
Also still miss Maas Brothers.
I miss all the old classy department stores here. Loved to
eat lunch in them and our Straws' had a balcony overlooking
the mall which was a restaurant. Ducky & I used to eat supper
there a lot during the Holidays. The mall is always decorated so
nice for Christmas, and we could look down at the shoppers
and the kids playing in the fountain, while the parents were distracted.
There are tons of coins in it so the little ones just wade in
grabbing them. I wonder how many get a chill on the way home and
get sick. We used to laff at them, they were so cute. I wonder if
Macy's will reopen it? The other owners were Stern's but kept the Straw's name.
Mr Strawbridges who was in his 90's when the kids sold it, had a heart attack and died when they also sold the name. The bastards. Kids just want money, they have not a clue as to the history and tradition of these old stores. Grrr

Yeah, I liked Ivey's too...everything changes names so frequently, it's hard to keep up with the names.

One thing my dad liked when we were in Philly was watching the Mummers' New Years Day parade... I think he liked that more than Macy's Thanksgiving one (and I remeember him turning it on for me on Thanksgiving morning, and we'd watch it together).

They didnn't have a lot of malls around then, but I remember us going out to King of Prussia. BTW, whatever happened to the old Korvette's stores? I remember going there too.

Korvette's is gone for a long time now.
I think it closed a few years after we
moved here in '73. Remember the huge
Sear's on The Blvd.?
A few years ago they imploded it. It was
a sad day for Philly. It was such a land
mark building and marked the half way
when I had to pick Ducky up from the Main
Line. They used footage to the implosion
in a Lethal Weapon movie.
We used to go to the Mummer's Day Parade
every year when we were here. What a neat
parade. It's the only one I like.
Now we have it on all the TV's in
the house all day. It starts at around 8 am
and goes till 6 PM. They now do the Fancy's
indoors right after the string bands finish. There
is a bit Mummers museum here now.
Ferko won this year.

KOP is so huge I have never liked it. I like our little Neshaminy Mall right down the street from us. KOP is about an hour from us on the turnpike.
We have a big mall out our way which was built the year we moved here.
Oxford Vally Mall. Used to live it it. It has changed so much now
I never go anymore. They put in a huge food court and of course all
the restaurants closed. I am not into food courts. The stores are for
teeny boppers now too.

Cool picture! Mum enjoyed it too!

I think I remember Neshaminy Mall, now that you mention it.

They imploded the old Orlando City Hall building for Lethal Weapon III... so way cool! Yep, I remember the Sears too. My Dad used to work at the Naval Base in Philly for about 10 years... it was the longest we ever lived in one place... we lived in Northeast Philly for about 18-24 months, then they had the house built in Warminster... back when there wasn't much in Warminster. We weren't too far from the old Naval Air Development Center (sometimes it was referred to as Johnsville). Back in the day when the Blue Angels used to do shows at both Willow Grove AND Johnsville, the Blues would sometimes fly right over our backyard... it was awesome! It has changed so much out that way... when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's, all down Ivyland road and such were nothing but farms and cornfields and the like. There were produce stands on the corners up that way too. We used to ride our bikes all over the place back then.

So, what'd the movie makers do there, search the country for someplace where a building is about to be torn down, so that they could film street scenes in front of it and then film the collapse itself?

The city of Orlando actually contacted Joel Silver and Richard Donner (the gurus behind the "Lethal Weapon" series) and asked them if they wanted to get in on it and film it. I believe they also filmed another large building that was being imploded in St. Pete as well.

You would not know this area if you came here
today. Where we live used to be farms. A cabbage farm
was here for years after we moved here. Now Philly is
moving in on us.
BTW, Goodnoe's was sold a few months ago.
I forget what son Marlin said was going to happen
to it. Nothing stays the same. Frown :(
Peddler's Village is still nice but grown and Jamison
the owner died last year. I think his family is going
to keep it going.
New Hope Main street is still a street of shops and
restaurants but the shops have changed owners over and
over again. The Havana Restaurant [my favorite] is still
there and now has outdoor seating. You can even eat out
in winter. They have huge heaters out there. No one eats
inside anymore. They still have The Day After Thanksgiving Sammich on
French Bread. I almost always get that when we go.

Oh no, not Goodnoes! Keep me posted as you hear info... talk about the death of an institution... I remember having dinner and getting ice cram there back in the 60's. We'd sometimes go for a ride during the week in the summer and take the family dog (a poodle) along... she used to get puppy cups way back before it was trendy! She'd stick her nose in there and nver came up for air until all her ice cream was gone!

Mmmmm... that sandwich sounds so-o-o-o-o good...

I will see if I can find out what's happening
to Goodnoe's. Emmy said it was still there as
of a couple of weeks ago. I know it sold but
maybe it will stay open.
Uh oh. Son Jeff just came in. He said it's closed
and there is a sign outside that says they are
going to auction everything in it off. Frown :(
Waaaaaaaaaaah. I never even got a last meal there!

I went to Goodnoe's website last night, and Labor Day weekend was the last time they were open. All equipment and fixtures are being auctioned off at the end of the month. Apparently the son that had been running the place for 30+ years wanted to retire, and nobody in the family wanted to step up to the plate and take over the day to day operations of the place. So-o-o-o-o... the recipes for everything (including the ice cream) will stay in the family in the even that somebody later down the road wanted to resurrect the family biz or start their own, but they're gonna sell the land and the buildings too.

Wa-a-a-a-a-a-h-h-h-h-h!!!!! Cry

There, there Pheebs Hug-There, There :there: I didn't get my last serving of swiss chocolate almond ice cream either...

We left Warminster in the summer of '73 to move up to the Cleveland area (lived 30 miles east in Mentor). Yep, been to New Hope and to Peddler's Village. I flew in for a weekend back around '80-'81 for the wedding of a friend I knew from school... they held the reception at the **** and Bull... whooooo... pricey!!! Nope, never been to The Havana. There was a restaurant out on York Road, I want to say in was heading out towards Buckingham, called Boswell's. Used to love that restaurant, but went there in the summer of '91 when I was pregnant with Erin when we were passing through the area (right about the time when they were getting ready to close the old Naval Air Development Center in Johnsville) and it had really changed... for the worse... I was so disappointed.

Wow... some things don't change, do they? I remember my Mom getting so ticked off at me when I was in first grade... she and Dad had reservations for there on New Years Eve, and had to cancel 'cause I got the mumps... she was NOT a happy camper... LOL! Our family doctor lived a block down the street from us (back in the days when they actually made house calls... dang, that must've been about a gazillion years ago!) and I would always get sick on his night to play cards... I'm surprised the guy still liked me... either that or he figured I kept him from losing his shirt... LOL!

We were out to PV a couple of months ago.
To the Kitchen Shop. I haven't eaten out
there in years and years.
Was Oscars up the road from PV back then?
My girlfriend and I ate there a lot. Crab cake
smmiches and the best crispy fries.
Oscar's is now gone and it's something
like the Lily Pad and it's a cutesy
luncheon place now. All the colonal curtains
and stuff. They seat ya now. Oh pleaseeeeeeee.
Needless to say we only went once. Yuk.
