Hi--I have a former Southern Belle from the Carolinas who has lived out here on the island for decades. She plaintively wishes
to experience "Peach sugar" again, and for the life of me, I don't know where we can find it for her...Any Leads appreciated.

Thanks Sean. Close but no ceegar as they say. I think it was a regional specialty of her youth some many decades ago...
Thanks for the try, though. |

I think I have an idea if the term is singular, as in sugar and not sugars.
When I was very young I recall a product here they called "Apple sugar". It was either an old name or a particular company's name for what they call apple butter now. It is a spread, not a sugar. Peach Butter One other thought I recall from parents and elsewhere in my youth was that they would call dried or candied sugared fruit "orange sugars" or "apple sugars". It is what was sold as candy many many years ago. That term goes back at least to the 19th century. I think using the sugar would speed the drying and it was a way to preserve the fruit which with our refrigeration and modern methods of drying we have less need to do in that manner. So the term disappeared with the change in technology. Not to mention that sugar has become the bad guy and it would not serve a company well to call their product "sugar". My best guess though is she is talking about the Peach Butter. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In a time of universal deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act. |

Thanks, Doug. I will ask her what it looked like. She's in her 80's, so it might very well be what you describe.
