The price of a can of McCormack's ground black pepper at my grocery store leaped 20% overnight, but I bought it anyway. Only after I compared it with the nigh-empty can at home did I realize the amount of pepper had been reduced from four ounces to three. Thus the price of pepper has nearly doubled! Deceptively, the cans containing the pepper are almost identical in size. Fortunately a can of pepper lasts approximately forever, so my cost of living will not be appreciably affected.
