I have tried to edit a couple of posts in the last couple of days and I got a message that the 12 hour time limit to edit the posts had been exceeded but it hadn't been.

Charlie...

The edit window has been 300 minutes/five hours for months now... as I told someone else a week or so ago, mebbe close to a year.

I'll check the error messages bucket though... with the download of a new version of BB software we just went through, it's possible the error message was reset.

Charlie...

I can't tell if the error msg was re-reset or just never reset, but it's been reset now and reads 300 minutes/5-hours.

Thankas for picking up on this for me.

Dear Junky...

I know of no "junk" posted by you. No no no! :nonono:

The EDIT WINDOW is the amount of time one has after posting a note during which time they can edit their posting... usually to correct a typo, or add a thought or a source link, or clarify something.

But no, once posted folks cannot "get rid of" their posting. Some folks will, within the five hour EDIT WINDOW, go back and edit their note by deleting the note's text and entering a period or some explanation (such as ***Sorry, duplicate post.***).

Did I explain this well enough, or have I made it "clear as mud"? Wink ;)

Best,
  *CJ

Maintaining that the EDIT window should accommodate those who want to correct/clarify/change their posting, I felt the 12-hour window didn't benefit anyone any more than the a five hour window did.

First off... folks should proof their posting -when it posts- to ensure it says what they want to say, is formatted correctly, and contains no typos.

Secondly, most Aantares Members fall into distinct categories of posters based on how often they show up on Aantares:
  • Those who show up more than once-a-day... they don't need 12-hours as they're usually here more than every 12 hours.

  • Those who show up once-a-day or thereabouts... the 12-hour window is of no benefit because they're only here every 24 hours, sometimes less often.

  • Those who show up several-times-a-week... same as the once-a-day folks, 12 hours is of no more benefit than five hours.
