As of July 16, 2009 WHO announced it will no longer provide updates on the H1N1 situation because laboratory confirmations are too burdensome for the affected countries. Continued spread is considered inevitable. However the symptoms of recent cases have been mild.

I got my annual flu shot today (Sunday, Sept. 6) at Walgreen's. No wait, no pain and the pharmacist who injected me was a lady with a nice sense of humor. The swine flu (H1N1) inoculation won't be available until October. I'm really looking forward to it.

There will be a shortage of H1N1 vaccine this year. Only about 94 million doses/week can be produced. If H1N1 (swine) flu becomes really deadly, we may be facing a global disaster.

The Influenza A(H1N1) WHO update #67, as of 20 September 2009 09:00 GMT, reports a grand total of over 300,000 laboratory confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza, with at least 3,917 deaths, world-wide.
As more and more countries have stopped counting individual cases, particularly of milder illness, the case count is significantly lower than the actually number of cases that have occurred. While the case counts no longer reflect actual disease activity. WHO is actively monitoring the progress of the pandemic through frequent consultations with the WHO Regional Offices and member states and through monitoring of multiple sources of data.
In North America, the United States has reported continued increases in activity above the seasonal baseline for the last 2 to 3 weeks, primarily in the southeast but now also appearing in the upper midwest and the northeast.
